That 3rd gear slam I had for 36k is what has me the most concerned about this transmission as it ages.
I sometimes wonder what kind of damage was done until Ford figured out the fix.
Harsh shifts are not what you need to worry about with automatic transmissions. Soft, prolonged shifts are what causes damage. Most people prefer an auto to slip from gear to gear so it feels like a smooth seamless shift, but quick, firm shifts are better for the transmission. I'm a little more concerned about how soft and lazy the 6R140 shifts when I think about longevity.
The shift miss would occur after the truck had been sitting all day. Leaving from work pulling into traffic it would have a big miss 1-2 when pulling out into traffic. Also had some funky messages from DEF monitor. It was hard to be smooth in traffic. The throttle response was abrupt. Hard braking needed several times to avoid a rear collision. I like it better, will know more when I pull to see if it responds without being too soft, firm is needed there, yes. I don't expect it to be like my Suncoast 4R100.
What are the symptoms of the shifting issues? Under light throttle mine shifts fine as far as I can tell. Is this normal or is this what you're referring to?
Hi PlayersZ28,
I can get the insight you need, my friend. Your inquiry has been forwarded to Ford experts; I will keep you posted as soon as I receive their feedback.
Hi Crystal. I'm new to the forum but have read a lot of the post in past. I have 2012 superduty that has really really rough shifts from 2-3 and sometime 4-5. I have 62000 miles but took it to dealer at 59k to have it fixed. They kept truck for 3 days then said it was normal. It feels like someone rear ends me when it does it. Does it when it's been sitting for awhile or cold. I feel like the dealer never even looked at it because they knew I was close to warranty expiring. It's getting worse and worse anytime I drive it. Is there anything I can do about it now???
How much does the solenoid fix cost? I have 91K now and have the hard shifting, flares etc.? I would like to get it done as I fear it causing issues down the pike.
I doubt my dealer would do it for free given my past experiences with them. I bought it on the X plan so no money was made with them except for trade ins and wife s new car also x plan and routine service.

I recommend reaching out to your dealership's service manager, capt caper; they'll be happy to provide you with an estimate. Keep in touch and let us know how your appointment goes; if you need help after your visit, just send me a PM with the info I listed above (full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership).
If you are defining a shift flare as rpms jumping like the tranny is slipping while shifting..... then I don't have that...
My only question for those with '13 350's or the like is not a real problem, but wondering if all of them do this... (maybe it's supposed to )
when unloaded and easing off from a stop in 1st gear it seems like it somewhat holds 1st just a little bit longer than it should and 'flares' just ever so slightly, then shifts into 2nd seemingly fine...
but, I don't notice it when towing
(oh, RARELY use tow haul ! pulls just fine without it )
it isn't really an issue, just 'seems' a bit odd to me...
Prob a dumb question but how do I pm you. I can't figure it out. Lol

Hi Crystal
It wont bring it up. I think I read somewhere that I gotta reply to so many threads before fully activated but im not 100% sure. i will read up on it and worse case call the number. thanks so much
Mine 2011 f-350 is doing it also. Usually from 3-4 shift and also will sometimes lock the rear tires when downshifting for a stop sign. I brought mine in at 158000km just befor the warranty was up. Ford tech said no codes so couldn't diagnose the problem, So now at 167000km still doing the same thing when the trans is cold. Im less then happy it wasn't repaired when the truck still had extended warranty. What can I do now?
I just got my truck back from getting my tranny replaced at a cost of $8,000.00. My torque converter went and took most of the electronics and a few of the "hard" parts with it. I had been dealing with a quick shift from 1-2 and a slam when downshifting from 5-4 for a few months. I had it checked out at a transmission shop and was told that I had great line pressures and things were ok 10k miles before the failure. I was at 186,000 miles at the time of replacement and tow all day with this truck. don't know if any of this helps but there it is for what it's worth.
