I have one truck that is just a parts truck, happens to also have a red dash. Other one I could conceivably part with, tan dash. Might have something laying loose in a big group of pieces that came with a different parts truck.

Oops, we are talking two different things. I think he's talking about the round piece you have to spread open to get around the column. The reason I think that is because that piece's length varies by whether it is a fixed or tilt column, and the piece you are talking about doesn't

Paul/RW - Please clarify.

Yes, the round black plastic cover that goes over the column.
I dunno if it's length is dependant on tilt/non tilt, or manual/auto. I just discovered that the old one was too long.

Another clue is the fact that the TS switch wiring is visible in those last pics.....

Yeah, the firewall should be rock solid, seeing as the 3 layers add up to be about 1/4" thick, or more.

I could get the small plate into position rather easy. Holding it in place while trying to thread in the bolts was another story. The studs kept the holes aligned, and the weight of that input shaft kept it from lifting up as I tried to start the bolts. My next idea would have been gluing it in place, but that would have taken a bit longer to cure.......
I got it on there, and that's what matters.

Turns out I do have two of the tilt-column shrouds, as shown below. I'll save one for you, RW.

And fyi, there are only two types for our trucks:

Cool.

I love how the catalog says "paint to match", yet they were all black.........

I considered it, but didn't think I could stick it down firmly enough, since I was using a long handled magnet to set it in place. That, and I didn't want to risk having it leak water into the floor, since the location is visible thru the cowl panel.......
Plus, I didn't have any with me.

I thought you would like that. Always believe the catalog, it is never wrong.

Didn't happen. No pic, no credit.

Actually, I'm anxious to see how all our work looks.

Pic's of it in the truck -under its own power- would be even better!

Amen! I suspect I'll get to see it when he comes up to get the stuff David left him as well as the shroud for the steering column. He probably won't need a radio antenna, center cap screws, or shroud before it is on the road.

At the moment, it doesn't look quite as good as it will after the rest of the engine has been cleaned, and the paint touched up......

I totally concur! At that point, I'm hoping to have video too.

Gary is correct, I won't need those things till it's back on the road.

Ran into a minor setback last weekend. Tried to turn the engine over by hand, and condensation had caused surface rust to form on the cyl walls. Soaked the cyls with penetrating oil and ATF. Spins over now.
Didn't want to force it past the rust ridges and risk damaging the rings, but after soaking with oil, it spun over pretty easy. Shot ATF several feet as each cyl came to TDC, and that was turning it over by hand. Would hate to see how far it would shoot out spinning it with the starter. That will have to be done though, before I can install the injectors......
That ATF in the cyls, should make the first start rather smokey....... At least the rings won't be dry.
Speaking of first start, planning to make it run before putting it in the truck. Maybe as soon as tomorrow.......

I'll bet that'll be noisy and smoky. But, cool nonetheless. A major milestone.
