03 Expedition A/C Question

Hey all,
I talked to my dealership today about all the problems that I have with my Expedition and was told to wait. I have 3 problems: 1. A/C issue, 2. reverse mirror issue, 3. brake dust issue. The dealer told me that Ford knows all about these issues and is currently working on a fix. (No time frame, just wait) He confirmed my name, address, and phone number and said that he was sending it to Ford so that when the fix was available for these I would be notified. He also said that Ford changed compressor types and brands with the '03 and it is the cause of all the A/C problems.

Later,
Havoc

03 Expedition A/C Question

2000RedL:

I would be very interested to know what the regional rep and engineer have to say about your a/c hissing noise. I take mine in tomorrow and they are going to change the expansion valve, but have no idea if that will solve the problem. When the hissing stops, I can almost hear the sound of money flowing from the fuel tank to the carb (or wherever it goes). I will let you know what happens.

03 Expedition A/C Question

Dealership replaced the expansion valve today. Same hissing noise is present. Not one bit different than the old one. I have noticed that if the air temp outside is about 60 or below, the hissing is not present when the a/c is on. Although it happens at any speed, idle, etc. I agree with 200RedL that it does seem to get somewhat louder as you accelerate. It fades in, peaks, then stops (and I find myself longing for that silence). Any suggestions for the next step?

03 Expedition A/C Question

I was the one that started this thread with my A/C problem. 3 trips to Ford and finally they put in a new expansion valve that fixed the problem, or so I thought.

6 weeks later, it is back doing the original problem, blows cold, then warms to 57 degress for 20 seconds, then cools down again.

Just went back into Ford and asked what the solution was. I was not going to bring this car in every 6 weeks. Same old story, we want to make it right, probably a bad expansion valve.

I am totally disgusted and told them so. What does one do, but keep taking it back for the same problem? Just thought would pass along to all interested.

It goes back next Wednesday.

03 Expedition A/C Question

All I can say is that is highly unusual. Of the hundreds of 03 Expeditions we have sold, rarely do we get repeat repairs on the AC. And usually because it wasnt correctly diagnosed the first trip in on the rare occasion that we do.

03 Expedition A/C Question

Hey Homer,

you guys getting any complaints about a grinding noise from the rear end? Sounds like the noise I used to get in my old Bronco with a Detroit locker when it needed some additive. Only happens when turning and accelerating. Mech at Ford heard it today but could not figure out where it was coming from. It was to be passed on to another tech this afternoon.

thanks for any help

03 Expedition A/C Question

Frog, is that a 4X4 03 Expy you are referring to? Turning from a stop or a rolling turn right or left?

03 Expedition A/C Question

Heard from the dealer today, they say they have another Expy 03 doing the same hot air from th a/c. Suppose to be getting the expansion valve from Ford. We'll see if it fixs it. They are also working with Regional Rep. to see if they can get some more information on the problem. Keep you posted with the progress.

03 Expedition A/C Question

My '03 blows nice cold air for about 10 minutes. Then it gets luke-warm and damp for a few minutes. Then cold again. If I reduce the temp (climate control) a few degrees, it immediately starts blowing cold again.

Dealer said - normal operation.

Is this right?

03 Expedition A/C Question

It's right to the extent that is the answer the dealers have been brainwashed into telling the poor customer. In my opinion, the "normal operation" excuse is wrong and unethical, as my a/c will freeze you out. I have even had frost on the rear inside glass. My "problem" is with excessive noise from the evaporator, which they also claim is "normal operation." My fear is that the more they monkey with it, the greater the chance they will foul things up worse. Supposed to meet with the regional ford rep next week. I think I will make him go to another dealership with me and we will drive a couple other expys that don't make the noise mine makes and then his "normal operation" excuse won't hold much water.
