03 Expedition A/C Question
Went to the only two dealers I have within a 150 mile radias. I think I am getting the short end of the stick on this buy back.
Will try to explain.
Carson City dealer is where I bought the car. Was told I can either take "sticker price" and trade for "sticker price". Or buy out for cash (what I paid) NOT SO, they will look the car over, deduct all mileage (up to right now) then give you the cash they feel the car is worth.
Now that pissed me off. I have no idea what they will give me in cash at this point, obviously it is going to be under the $36,500 I paid. Carson dealer told me she has no idea what they will pay me, that is up to FORD. This is beginning to really upset me.
First of all cannot find a car equal to mine between two dealers. If I stick with an XLT, mine has advance track, an $800.00 option, 6 cd player and off road package. I paid $36,500 for it.
Carson dealer does not even have a white car in stock, but oh yeah they have an Eddie Bauer to the tune of $47.000 with options I would never use. And I need and want WHITE because of where I live, dirt roads and all.
This Carson dealer tells me I must deal with them and only them, cannot go to my only other option the Ford dealer in Reno. OKEEYYYY, but said you don't even have ONE WHITE CAR in stock, I WANT A WHITE CAR, all you have is a $47,000 White Eddie Bauer no White XLT in stock.
She also tells me they will NOT dealer trade on a buy back, costs them a $1,000. So here I am, no choices, no dealer trades.
She also tells me the Reno dealer (much larger dealer and lots of choices) does not do buy backs. She said if I choose to do the sticker price to sticker price she will order me a car and get as equal as she can to my car now, for what additional cost at this point I do not know. I said to her, but there are several at the Reno dealer that would work for me and I could get this all done in a short time, not 8-10 weeks to order a car then not sure at this point what in the heck that will cost ME.
So guys here I am. Also found out that the Reno dealer does do tades and they told me they would be more than willing to send a car that I like from their dealership to the Carson City dealership, but Carson will not do that.
I am really upset over this whole damn mess. Sounded like it was a good deal but not so sure now.
This is what I plan to do. Call the rep from the arbitration board on Monday and get all the details about this great buy back deal they are offering me. I am going to find out who decides what my cash out value is on this car is. To tell you all the truth, I am about ready to take the cash ) if it isequal and fair to me, and forget another FORD Expedition.
I am totally confused at this point. Cash equals what? Buy another for equal value, but can't find one equal to mine. Probably 2004's have gone up and I will bear the brunt of that cost. Am I getting screwed or what?
Hey, done, thanks for listening and would appreciate any and all comments.....because I am mad as heck right now.

raudy,
I talked to the guy in Fl that did a buy back a couple of months ago and this is what he said. Ford gave him what he paid plus 10% ( I think that is the amount) towards a new Expy and he used the extra percentage to upgrade. . I do know if they buy it back and you don't take another Ford they deduct for the mileage from what I heard it's a reasonable amount. Just remember this is not binding for you. You still have the option to sue them and now that they have offered a new car they have accepted responsibility. If they aren't willing to settle with me I may ask you for your case number so I have more ammunition. Keep us informed. Doesn't sprintcarcrazy have his meeting on Tuesday ?

DN27 So you are saying if one chooses to take cash they pay you what you paid at least. This gal in Carson said they will deduct for this and that and it is all up to Ford to determine what they will give you back in cash )wonder who checks my car out to decide all this) . She lead me think I would get less than what I paid and that is not right.
This car only had 5000 miles when the problem was noticed and I believe the problem was there from day one, just never ran the air right after it was purchased.
I am not going to stress yet. I am calling the lady that is handling my case Monday and now will ask some very pointed questions.
The thing that irks me is not being able to choose the dealer I want to get a replacement, What is one to do with a small dealer that only has like 5 expeditions on their lot to chose from versus the large dealer that and 10-15.
I will keep all posted and of course I would be happy to give you my case number.

Before you settle to or sign anything, educate yourself on what your rights are so that you are not misled by anything the dealer or Ford tells you that you are entitled to. If what you are saying is accurate, then this deal amounts to nothing more than a simple trade in, and you've gained nothing as a result. As far I know, Ford can only deduct the amount of mileage used at the time the very first repair for same item was attempted. Hope things work out in your favor because you've been inconvenienced enough. PS - I'd take the money and purchase from another manufacturer like Toyota. While more pricey and lacking some of the nice amenities like rear folddown seating and towing capacity, the ones they do have are not accustomed to having problems and you won't be visiting the dealership for more than regular maintenance.
I appreciate all of your advice. I am now prepared to be a bit assertive when I call the Ford rep or whoever this gal is that I am to deal with on Monday.
I got to thinking, first of all FORD OWES ME. I did not ask for this problem that cannot be fixed. I love my car, but I was beginning to think they were doing me a favor by replacing or buying the car back. I got that right out of my head quickly.
If I want to deal with another dealer than where I bought it because this small dealer has little or no stock to choose from then by golly I should be able to make that choice.
And I definately am going to find out what the buy back dollars will be and it better be exactly what I paid, plus the sales tax and may ask that they buy my tires and rims that I put on to the tune of $2700.00 because they will only fit the Expedition (was told they would so long as I have the receipt). And the $1600.00 extended warranty I bought. The rep already told me there would be no penalty for mileage, or so she said last Wednesday.
I believe that is the way I will go, if the dollars are what I feel is due me, will ask to be paid off.
I am not playing their game, we do not do dealer trades on buy backs, you may not get your full amout back if you ask to be paid off, etc....
That way as TB61 said, then I can go where I please and get a replacement.
And truly all off us in this lemon situation should keep in mind that they do owe us..... It is their product that failed and it is us, the consumer that paid big dollars for these cars.
Am making a list to have in front of me when I call this Monday, with all my questions....
Will post Monday after I get the details. Again thanks so much for the support, it has helped me. I may be a woman but I am quite able to deal with these people and also have a pretty good Italian temper too.... ha ha

My Hearing is at 11:00am Wednesday, I will attend by teleconference. The first repair attempt on mine was at 4297 miles. I have prettty well decided not to get another Expedition but will get another Ford Product if it works out I can, probably a 04 F-150 Super Crew XLT, unless my wife objects more strongly than she is now.
I have been way to patient with Ford, so if they start trying to screw me around, I will never buy another Ford Product again !

Sprintcarcrazy, best of luck, please keep us posted.
I got the OK to deal with the dealer in Reno. No problem from the gal that handles the buy backs at all. She was very cooperative and am looking forward to working with her. The Carson City dealer can go hug a rope.
Probably will seriously consider paying the difference for the Eddie Bauer simply because I do not like the grey cloth interior on the XLT's. Hope my 20" tires and chrome rims look as good on it as on the plain white XLT I now have. Only concern is the E. BAuer has that gold panel than runs the length of the car including the fender wells.
Anyhow such a relief that I can work with another dealer. I still am willing to give another Expedition a try. My 2001 was great. I will think positive on the new one.

raudy,
did you ever get better answers to your questions on how much a deduction you would take if they just cashed you out and bought it back if you decided not to replace it with another new Ford vehicle? did you end up dealing with the regional rep or did you talk directly with someone in the buyback office? i'm in a similar situtation and appreciate learning what you have found out.
thanks!!

Raudy,
Word of caution regarding oversized aftermarket wheels and tires: If you have any vibration issues with the new vehicle, the Ford dealer may claim you altered the vehicle's original operating characteristics as designed and won't repair something they say is not broke. If your aftermarket tires and rims are not the culprit, the burden of proof will ultimately fall on you. So hang on to the stock tires and wheels just in case you need to switch back. More importantly, test drive your new vehicle at both city and freeway speeds with the stock equipment. If it vibrates, be wary and don't assume it's the tires and wheels out of balance. I'd pick a different vehicle and test drive that. Please read posts from DN27 and others regarding vibration.

My XLT has Leather, are you saying you can't get Leather now unless it's on an EB with the ugly lower trim colors that someone seems to want to throw at us.
Lets have a blue truck, lets put a pink lower panel on it for a while see how they like that ?

Yes you can still get leather on XLT's but it is a special order, they did have one at the dealer but not heated and having never had leather seats, was told get heated and cooled if you can.
And yes I still have my original tires from the XLT and will Keep the originals on the new car too.
Good Advice and I appreciate it.
BUYBACK: I did not ask that as I knew I would just deal with the sticker to sticker pricing. It really seemed only important if I was going to want to buy something other than another Ford as far as being cashed out....at least to me. You either pay sticker to sticker or get cashed out and then deal to get money of the sticker cost. About equal in my mind. Hope I am right.
All I had to do was find a dealer that was willing to deal with a buyback, gave the person at the dealer the name and phone number of this gal that originally called me from Detroit to tell me about the offerfrom Ford, who I assume works for Ford. She will in turn mail off all the paperwork to that dealer of my choice and I can proceed from there.
The gal I dealt with at the dealer was the inventory control person and so was the rude one at the other dealer. Sounds like buy backs are the respopnssibility of the inventory control person at a dealer.
I assume the dealer then finishes it all off, and that is where I will turn my car in when the new one is available. She also will refund my $1600 dollars for the extended warranty. I decided not to buy that again until the 35,000 miles get close. i will use this money to add to the addl. cost for the Eddie Bauer.
It truly was an easy procedure and gave me a lot of faith in the system for a change.

Hello everybody, I just took my Expedition to the dealer in order to try to fix the hissing noise coming from behind the glove box, I was able to talk with a technician and he knew what I was talking about. He told me that if I leave the car at the dealer I will waste my time, he tried to fix another car with the same complain without success, there is NO FIX for this problem, he claimed that this noise IS COMMON in all Expeditions because of the expansion valve, This is unbelievable, I cannot believe that I just paid 35k for this SUV. I do not know what to do. I will try to contact directly to FORD and see what they say, this situation really sucks.
Any comment will be appreciate it.

congratulations on your persistance. Hopefully you will find a vehicle to suit you. I would test drive the bajesus out of the one you are considering. A couple of hundred miles at least. Also, I have the xlt with leather. Ours is in the garage, so heated/cooled seats seem kind of silly, however, my mom's beemer has them, and they are nice when it is really cold out and you want a quick warm up. However, it is just one more thing to go wrong. I do wish the xlt had passenger side power seats though. I don't think EB is worth the money and definitely do not like the two tone leather or most exterior colors. As far as color, I would look at silver or wheat (gold, whatever they have). Hides dirt much better and does not get the black streaks. Still have not solved our hissing noise problem. Have to wait until summer again to gear up for that battle. Congrats again!
