03 Expedition A/C Question
It is my understanding that by law these cars must be labeled as a "lemon" and told that to future buyers.
And it should be that way, why should someone else buy our headaches?
I would think Ford would want some of these cars back like mine to mess with it and find out just what caused the A/C to fail.
When I get ready to change cars am going to ask the gal what does happen to my old car.
Still waiting for the new shipment of Eddie Bauer's to come in, hopefully will be MOnday. Paperwork still not at the dealer, nor have I received my certified letter which you all will get too.
Trying to be patient....

Raudy,
There are so many choices out there in the SUV market. It's very competitive and all manufacturers want a piece of the pie in terms of your loyalty (and money). Millions of Expeditions are built every day that the buying consumer is very happy with. I have two neighbors up the street who both own them and love them. Now and again, one will be built that does not meet those standards. The size, comfort and amenities my Expedition offers have all been overshadowed by numerous visits to the dealership, always being told "it's fixed" and it's not fixed, time and money lost from missing work, extra mileage and gas from going back and forth that's been at my expense.....I just won't go through all that again. Like myself, you must lead a pretty full life - can you see yourself doing all of this again? It's a gamble and judgement call only you can make for yourself.

My expedition was improperly shielded against exterior RF sources, ie: Doppler Radar, Weather stations, military planes. Upon encountering a strong signal, everything in the vehicle would go off, except engine and headlights, all the warning lights would go on, gauges would sweep back and forth. Then you would have to pull off, shut off the key for a while to let things reset, then start off again. It may not happen to most people often but us it did weekly as we travel up north to races and pass a doppler radar site. There was no place to pull off for 25-30 miles, so No AC after that until you pulled off the road and waited 20 minutes.
Besides minor things, door seals, window seals, seat foam rear hatch leak, it was a great vehicle. I just couldn't keep it with the craziness it had. They changed the ordering options on the 04's, I would have had to spend several 1000 more to get the same options I had, and I was not willing to do that. With the offer they gave me, I would be crazy not to take a refund. I will be back in a few months and probably buy another Ford, F150-Super Crew, but I am watching the boards for problems on these new vehicles, and there have been some so I will have to see.
I would not tell anyone not to buy and 04 Expedition, just don't buy my old one.

I just picked up my new car and must stay I am impressed with the Eddie Bauer vs. my old XLT. Interior is really soooooo much nicer.
All went well with the replacement. I tell people it was quite a relief to know how well this went considering you are dealing with a huge company such as Ford. I know this is their responsibility but I still was pleased that it went so smoothly.

Well, I can't say that yet, I enclosed a letter with my acceptance form and they didn't like it. Said I was trying to set conditions. I stated, no, this is was I expected.
So I had to sign and send another form, without any letters, I hope this goes okay.

DN27,
Not only have you had same issues with your vehicle, you also have your eye on the same one I do. That's the direction I'm headed in......while it's an aging design, it's reliability, quality and integrity is next to none and you will only need to visit the dealer during regular scheduled maintenance. Now that's music to my ears and that's why I'm going to leave Ford and go with Toyota.

raudy,
How's the new Expy ?
TB61,
They think those Sequia's are made out of gold. I can't get them to bargain at all. I may have to rethink what I'm going to get. I'm still waiting to see how much I get back from Ford. They make it real inviting to get another Ford

It is great, seems quieter inside than my 03. Will say on the 03 never really had the brake dust problems everyone talks about, but on this one at 100 miles the rims were full of the stuff. Definately will get them replaced at their expense.
Am planning on not putting on my 20" tires and pricy rims till Spring. Two reasons, the mud and snow here in the winter and actually enjoying the ride with the stock tires. Those low profile tires are rough riding.
All in all though, the car is really classy, much nicer than the XLT especially the tan leather interior. Never liked that grey cloth Ford chose for the Expy's. Still trying to figure out the climate control and need to check out the air conditioning, but part of me is saying wait, enjoy the car for while. I am sure it could not happen a second time......
Am curious about what you will get back from Ford since you chose to be paid back. Hope you do not mind letting us know. It should be the full price shouldn't it? I never did find out on my deal as I knew I would replace with another Ford.

DN27,
Getting real gold comes at a real gold's price - I've already been burned by fool's gold as it tarnished in a real hurry. Plus, it will be reliable for years to come (how many used Sequoia's are in your local paper)? The local high volume Toyota dealer here still has some 2003's on the lot at $1,000 rebate. They are continuing to pay interest to their flooring source on them so I'm sure they'd be motivated to bargain. Visit the dealership on the 30th or 31st of the month. I'll bet they'll be a little more willing to bargain because they don't want the additional inventory come year end, if they can help it. Toyota dealers don't have to discount the things because of high demand, but don't give up yet and don't be tempted by the competition's rebates and lower cost - everyone's different in terms of what risks they are willing to take. Since I'm not a gambler I'm not willing to risk another Ford product for a while, if ever again.

Longo Toyota, El Monte, CA (off Peck Road, 10 Freeway)
Go into Yahoo search engine "Longo Toyota" get into their website and you'll find a listing of their inventory for all models. High volume dealers are more willing to negotiate. Good luck. Hope things work out for you, whatever you decide.
