Man, I really feel for you. I've been in a similar circumstance and when a shoddy dealership knows you are in a pickle, they go for the throat. It sucks, but some places are like that. It's great to know that there are honest people on these forums that will encourage you and offer whatever help they can give you. Knowing or understanding the ins and outs will help me when/if the time comes. Good luck Fred. Happy Trails.
Fred, please post the name and location of the dealership and even the name of the service manager. I want to make sure I avoid that place and spread the word to anyone I see about them. Maybe you've posted it already. If so, please someone give me the page.
However, I'm not sure the times of the forum allow for that.

Here it is... I believe it is in Dallas, TX.

This is precisely why dealerships have a bad name when it comes to car repair and while I know our resident techs hate the term stealership its easy to see why they ( meaning dealerships ) are oft called that and I know this does not represent our resident techs it is an unfortunate blemish on the reputations of honest technicians worldwide.
This ordeal needs to be reported to Ford motor company. Detecting s cracked head from diesel in the coolant can be done by 75% our the people on this forum in less than one hour. I got ticked when Fred showed a picture of his torn down engine. The words barbaric and moron came to mind. AND THEY CHARGED $1200 for the duagnostics?!??!!.
Fred , Just be Happy you didn't fall short here in Cali, were the Ky would be on the repair order, this State seems to be one of the highest in everything and there is no nickel and dimes its a lot of Benjermens. We Hope your Travels back home is a safe one Keep the Eyes on the road and the rubber on the Pavement
Truck didn't give us any problem. The dealer had put the coolant level at the top mark, I had wanted it at the min line but they put it at the max. We drove home with it that way and I didn't detect any problems. I may drain it down a bit. Coolant never went up or down.
The stink is pretty much gone. I think it just had to burn off and a little help from Febrezze . The AC over time came back to life, it worked well while moving but idle and acceleration it didn't work as well. I think that's by design.
The new fan clutch worked. Oil temp went to 220 and seemed to like that number. It had a trip to 230 a few times but seemed to like the 217 to 225 range. It was over 80 degrees outside. Water headed to 210 and liked that number. It had a few trips to the 220's but the fan pulled that number down right away. The ground wire fan mod still doesn't work on the new fan clutch. Overall, it seems like the temps were good. Without the trailer, the delta is running at 5 or less. When we would stop for fuel, the truck would cool off quickly to 195/200.
The truck is running better. It used to tow at 62 mph, wouldn't give me much more, had to plan passes way in advance and hills, well, hope there is a truck lane. Now, it ran at 70 mph like there was no trailer back there. Passing, no planning, I want to pass and the truck had it done already. Hills, hit the bottom at 70 and we're almost doing the same at the top. Something must have been wrong with the truck as this repair made it a better towing vehicle. Worth 6K, no, not at all.
So, that's where we stand. I still have to post the invoices and I have to scan the truck for codes. Stay tuned.
Fred,
Good to hear you make it home and almost all is working at 100%.
On the AC I would not just dump in any old amount of refrigerant.
Your better off if you can remove what is there and then fill it to
the recommended amount. That way you can pull a full vacuum
on the system and check it for leaks. The other thing to try would
be to check the condenser for any blockages. Like dirt, leaves and bugs.
A simple cleaning may help and definitely won't hurt. In the process
you can also clean the intercooler find for nay dirt. The funny thing is
you don't need large items blocking the air flow just simple dust will
bring the effectives down.
Data, your temps look good. Glad to see the power back. Whenever I tow, I'm amazed how many people I pasd going up hills. There is only one condition when I slow down going up hills. ........
When I want to.
The 6.0 it's a towing machine. With 3.73 rear gearing, I tow better at 70 than at 60.
