What would the bill be If they put it all back and you found a shop out of FTE Texas chapter, the Guys are right you are in a rock and a hard spot but your not Married to that price or shop and for 5200 WOW . shop around for a better price . Anybody in Texas willing to store a Rv until Datamans truck gets repaired? If you were in Nor Cal I would Help Ya Good luck My Freind
I'd be out over $1200. My wife and I talked about another shop, BPD, one in the Carolinas (sorry can't remember who) and one in Florida. 2 things kept us in the mess we are. One, the $1200 plus whatever another shop is going to charge us, two, getting the truck there and the trailer home, getting to the truck to get it back home. Ford is putting a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty on the work which for us travelers is important. If another shop offered a 2 year warranty, they were on east coast and we were on the west coast, we'd be out more money for repairs if something went wrong again. I offer no excuses for what the dealer is doing to us, we're in this badger hole and fightin to get out with some fur left on us. It's ugly and I'm just getting meaner by minute.
We (and if I may speak for the lot of us) do realize the massive jam you are in and just want you to be as fully armed as you can to be able to deal intelligently with the problem. We just hate seeing anybody get bent over for no good reason. I'm sure they will "threaten" you with all kinds of "If you don't do this then......" scenario's but that's why we're expressing our opinion as we are.
BTW....If you get across Oklahoma and have a problem I'm on the Arkansas/Oklahoma border and I bet we can get you home.....
I am well armed now thanks to all of you. I didn't see this posting going nuclear. Right now it's do what has to be done to get us home, the head, gasket, harness, injector and fan clutch. The rest I'll deal with when I get home. I better not avoid any warranty by working on it after they have.
Man, I've been watching this post and you are in some pickle,If it where me I'd be really upset but thats not gong to help the problem. If I may say my opinion and because I'm cheap (I like to call it getting my monies worth) You got the truck and trailer there,I think it would make it back home with a patch job, thus you can get the job done right by waiting to get the parts here and there for the right price and in the meantime find a shop the will do the job that you are comfortable with and have a truck thats ready for your next vacation with no worries... that is what I would do,and if you get in trouble I'm sure there is a bunch of guy's here at FTE that will help you out, I know I always offer, that what the FTE family is about.......Bill
okay here's the thing you could be putting good money into Poor service, and if that's the case you're just throwing this money awayand you will still have to spend for a decent job well done.

dataman sorry to read of your troubles. I align myself with the patch it together get it out of there crowd, but your reply reminded of how my dad would've handled it make the best of the situation ie most work on the engine for the least amount of money and trust the people there will do their part putting it back together. I miss my dad's attitude dealing with problems. May the out come with your trouble be a good, reliable running engine that will take you and the misses on other trips with happier memories.
Well, I have something to say about it and i don't even have my SD yet. I realize the pickle your in, go ahead and get it done and chalk it up to never again. I know everyone means well, but they aren't in your shoes right now. Try to enjoy the rest of your trip and maybe one day you'll get to laugh about this trip. God bless and good luck.
Good luck dataman! I am really thankful to all the people who have responded on here. I know it doesn't do anything to make you feel better, but just know that your post has given many of us ideas on what to do in similar circumstances. If I am ever stranded, I'll have more ideas on what to do/not do.
