Splice a Pressure gauge into the Small Lines to the Degass Bottle
WOnder if its Fuel to Brett
Is it Full to the TOP of Coolant Bottle each time this happens?????
Happened the first time, drained down, didn't come back. This time, filled up, hasn't gone any higher, no overflow, no whistle, no white residue, no white smoke out the tailpipe. How can the truck run good overall if the head or heads are cracked or the gaskets are gone?
Coolant level rising, cap deformed and weird smell all point to fuel in the coolant from a cracked head.
My nose doesn't work the best anymore but it sure knows diesel. I don't smell it. Plus I don't see how the truck can run so good with a cracked head. I'm an amateur here, plus being in a campground away from my garage doesn't help either.
Absent minded me forgot that I had my code scanner with me. Did a scan and pulled theses:
B1352 P0480 P0528
P0672
Going to research them now, didn't clear them out of the truck.
Check your fan clutch wires. Any time I'm ever had both of those exact codes set, it's been the fan clutch wires have been sliced by the fan blades........or the fan clutch wiring connector left disconnected.
I ran out of options. I couldn't get the cap to budge this morning. Truck is at Grapevine Ford. Had to get a rental so we're not completely stranded. Haven't heard from them yet. Have no idea if they can get it done by the time we have to head back home. I really don't think the head gaskets went, there are not enough signs that point to that. They think it's a plugged radiator or EGR cooler. Plus the fan clutch, plus the degas tank and cap, plus might as well get the pump replaced as long as they are that far in, heck do the belt too, it will break in the middle of Oklahoma if we don't.
Not too happy right now. Anyone want to buy a 2009 travel trailer? It needs a bath but otherwise it's in outstanding condition. I'm not kidding. If I could sell it down here and head home without it I'd be fine with that. I planned on selling it next year to pay off the sticks and bricks mortgage. I still want to RV but I want to get the mortgage outta my hair.
Thanks for listening and all the input. Your are a great group to be able to bounce your 6.0 problems on. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Maybe its Overheating from the Fan Hell you Have 2 DTC for it
When you was making the Pull did you Happen to see ECT???
Still shouldn't be Making Fluid though that is Normally an inject Cup Leaking fuel into coolant its Not a Head Gasket Leak
It does, but we make the best of it. I just realized that my gas grill is in the back of the truck so I had to order pizza tonight.
The thing that baffles the heck out of me is that it's not overheating(at least by my definition). I've run the Sam Rayburn Tollway between Grapevine and Plano 4 times since we got here and the delta has stayed at less than 10 degrees at 70 + MPH and it's 90 degrees outside!!!!!! Granted it's usually ECT 197 to 204 and EOT 200 to 212. I did see that the thermostat is stuck open, there was no drop in ECT after 191 as it usually did. It does need that replaced.
The pull down had outside temps all over the place. 40 degree mornings to 90 plus in the afternoon. Oil never went over 227, if it got anywhere near 225 the fan was roaring which doesn't explain the codes it tossed for the fan. The ECT were over 200 when warmed up and running but they never broke 212.
I saw no white smoke out the tail pipe, there was no overflow, no whistle not a darn thing. I'm on the verge of saying that I refuse to believe that it's head gaskets based on what I've read from searches on here.
Would one injector cup do this or are we looking at all 8? If all 8 had to be done, do we put the same injectors in, have them refurbished or put something new in?
You are looking at head replacement if you have fuel in the coolant, head gaskets won't cause the degas bottle to overfill. The injector cups being cracked can cause it but you would have to have the lower o'ring on the injector fail and from everything I've read is injector cup replacement rarely fixes this problem.
I have never seen an injector cup leak on a 6.0l. If there is fuel in the coolant, it is going to be from a crack in the head near one of the cups.
It is usually pretty easy to tell if there is fuel in the coolant because of the smell, but I do have a sensitive nose. And most of the trucks I have worked on have been bad enough that they have been pushing coolant and fuel out of the degas bottle. There have been a couple that just had a little fuel that made the coolant look cloudy.

Not the best news I wanted to hear but it adds to my knowledge of what might be going on. If it's fuel in the coolant there's no way to save the heads? I'm trying to keep the repair cost to a minimum so I can get me home with something left in my wallet.
If ones nose can't smell diesel in the coolant, all I smell is coolant, how do you test coolant for the presence of diesel in coolant?
