I have not done that.never felt it would be accurate enough.
Well poop! I seen a pipe plug on the drivers side about 6 inches forward of the shifter, but not sure if that's a pressure port or if I could use it. Just wanting something easy I could tap into.
That's where I put mine as well. That is what was recommended to me and it seems to have worked well.
Nate, have you ever compared that to the pan temp? I'm curious if it would b accurate.
i always thought that the plug would not have fluid flowing since its a dead end deal.therefore not as accurate. I'm asking and in the future since i have an extra sender will experiment and see how they compare.

No, I haven't compared the two. I thought someone told me though that there was, indeed fluid flowing past that location and that is why it was a good place to put the sender. Also, I would think that the fluid in the pan would be cooler (because it is in the pan) than the fluid flowing through the transmission, but I guess if that passage is a dead end, then that's not the best either. I know a lot of guys on here that have their senders in that port though, so I guess I don't know.
I guess you'll have to test the theory out for us.
Be sure and do a writeup with the results.

That's the best place to put the sender. If you want an accurate reading of the overall trans temp, that's the place.
The pan is about the worst place to put it. People assume that the temperatures in the pan are uniform. They are not! I studied this when I was a Ford transmission cooling engineer. I had 15-20 thermocouples in the pan. Depending on where you measured the temperature there were BIG differences compared to the internal temp of the trans. The sender in the pressure test port (that's what you found) was much closer to the real trans temp.
