I just bought a AUTOMETER trans temp guage for my 2000 PSD.There is a plug in the trans on the driver side just above the pan. The sending unit fits there but it is longer than the plug I removed. I just want to make sure that I'am not blocking anything with the extra length of the sending unit. Has anybody used this set up and what kind of numbers should I see for the temp. Thanks
I spliced mine into the output cooling line and see about 180 while towing at highway speeds. Stop and go traffic while towing is where I have trouble with over heating and have been thinking about using a eletric fan mounted on the aux. cooler.
I dropped to pan and brazed fitting into the back, lowest part of the pan which is in the sump. This is where to oil is picked up to the filter and thru the trans.
When towing, flat land, no hills in the Keys, 60 mph, air temp 85,
in OD
exhaust temp = 750, Trans temp = 145, turbo = 9 psi, mpg = 12
My ride is a 2000 F350 Super Duty, Lariat, PSD, 4X4, long bed, 4.1 rear, automatic, SRW, with added stainless steel 4" exhaust, turbo to 5" tip, with a "see thru" muffler and EGT, Trans temperature with turbo psi gauge. I tow a 12,000 pound 28.6 ft travel trailer
The tip didn't drop into pan? Sounds like good excuse for a trans oil and filter change. The magnet in trans pan should catch it if it is moving around pan anyway. Assuming Ford 250 utilizes a magnet in pan, if you decide to take off pan, make sure to clean off and stick back in. If PU has some age on it, you will be shocked how much metalic crude is on it!
Nope, don't ever think it could get in pan, it is right in that port. Not sure if dropping pan would allow me access to it from the inside, and would definetely want to know that before I went to the trouble. It is not a small "tip", about 3/8" wide.
