Question Trans Temp Sending unit placement options

Hey Folks- Just ordered a new trans temp gauge for my 4R100, and got to thinking about the best place to install the sending unit.(not nesessarly the easiest) There are at least three options I know of. 1) In the pan, where I'd expect the fluid to be coolest; 2) in the test port of the trans case; or 3) In the discharge line port too the cooler, where I believe it's just left the TC, and I'd expect it to be warmest.
What temp should I be monitoring?
I've heard that anything over 210*F is not a good thing, but is that at the pan (coolest), or anywhere in the system?
If, as I believe, the highest temps are at the TC discharge, does the 210* max apply here too?
Your thoughts. Thanks, -Rob-
PS: also ordered an extra capacity trans pan that has a spot for the sending unit, if that's where I should put it.

The test port is the most common. It's really kind of a crap shoot. Every point has plus and minus's. I like the pan as that is where a large slug of oil spends the most time. Oil breakdown is a time/temperature thing so I don't believe having the sensor at the hottest spot is necessary. When people talk about temps they are generally talking about the temp at the test port just because that is the most common.

Cut the line going to the cooler and install it there. You want to know how hot it is running.
Not what the temperature in the pan is.
Normal operating temperature is 175*.
Anything over you had better install an external cooler with and electric fan in series.
