Holly cow Josh, that's messed up, fun with German cars. So then I take it that the clutch disc hub was against the flywheel holding the friction material off of the flywheel?
yeah, the hub was touching the flywheel bolts, but not far enough to notice until its all bolted together. with the clutch disk in hand and the pressure plate off, its easy to turn the disk against the flywheel in the wrong orientation. and like a fool, i believed what chiltons said. and chiltons really bit me where the sun don't shine!!
why can't they be like a ford and have a big enough hub on there that you can't accidentally install it backward like that.... oh, well we all know thats too much to ask of the germans...
i don't have the car put all the way back together yet, but at least i'm good and darn sure its gonna work tomorrow when i do finish putting it back together.
and then i'm gonna take my tranny jack back to harbor freight for their heavier model. this one is becoming a real POS!! in the last 2 weeks, i've had to rebuild both tilt mechanisms on its head, and then today it decided to start leaking down in its hydraulics, at about half an inch per minute without a load on it. made for a real bitch keeping things where i wanted with a tranny sitting on it! i think i'm gonna get their 2000 pound model, cause i'm tired of breaking the 800 pound model. the heaviest tranny its seen was a dodge diesel, and the damn thing must have weighed 300 pounds, it was a heavy monster - but still less than half of the tool's rating. thats the one that destroyed both tilt mechanisms - talk about a fun day - i almost dropped that tranny off the side a few times when the head of the jack jumped around. but at least the bmw is a fairly light tranny, so it wasn't so bad to handle with a poor jack.
It's my understanding that in Germany they don't let a car on the road that is more then 5 years old. It's very expensive to drive there. As such they do not design their cars to need any form of service that would be needed before that 5 year mark. It fits from what I see of German cars, oil changes, brake pads etc, very easy. Tune ups, belts, clutches, etc giant PITA.

Josh you have to apply the Chinese jack de-rating formula to first.
Take the claimed rating and multiply it by 0.5 for the true one time
use rating or 0.25 for continuos use.I have a Sears Chinese 3.5 ton
jack that won't hole up one of my rear tires on the truck and that is only
1500 Lb. I need a good Made in the USA floor jack that won't leak down. On the front you can get the jack stands in if your fast.
Wow what a mess... My trans jack is a bit flimsy for bigger transmissions but instead of A risky hydraulic piston, it uses a ratcheting scissor style. It's a little more of A pain to crank a ratchet while trying to balance a c-6 with the np203 still mated too it but besides it falling off, ot worked well. I think it's a craftsman.
sean, you might be onto something there... but still, used repeatedly on small transmissions of 1-200 pounds, once on a 300 pound monster, and back to the small ones.
so i buy their 2000 pound model, and then i'm allowed to handle up to 500 pounds daily... thats still a helluva lot for a tranny jack, maybe it'll work
I am so frustrated I can't pm an admin to report some one. Are there nice people here? I am new to restoring and talking to others that have some clue of what they r doing wit the subject matter here... I. Don't know what I am doing other then the basics. And was just trying to fallow a dream. Please help. See my post in the 67 to 73 truck area.."1969 f259 camper speical" thread. What am I to do about a person like that. I know there r mean persons. But really is that how a lady is treated here?
I want to say that I should not have stated what I did above. It was not clear that I am a lady in my posts so far. I will just let it go. It was handled in how to report if the need arises in the future. Thank u.
If it's one person that is giving a hard/bad time you can add them to you ignore
list in the User CP it's at the top ;eft of the page and all you do is copy
the user you want to ignore and past it in the ignore list. I think is Edit Ignore or
something like that. If its more than that your will need to report it to a Mod.

I wouldn't worry too much, it's just the old guys up in the pickup threads doing their usual. It wasn't too serious.
Zip, down here in the Wash it's pretty nice, the sun is out and actually made me sweat a bit when I installed these new seat belts in my beetle.
On another note, I posted a thread about a local car show here that is coming up in July, I'll grab the link and post it in a second.
