You have a copy of a John Muir book?

With it running, has to be running and running faster then idle.

I wish we had some Ford books like the Muir books, they really are fantastic.

Uh no, I was referring to the pictures you posted. It looks like a book with a comical feel so it would be easy to read.

I checked EBay and found one for 9.99 used.

If it's the right one buy it, you'll never regret it.

I'll have to look around some more. Maybe I can get one locally.

Well I found one cheap on Barnes&Nobles but I don't have a gift card for there. Mine was for Borders which is currently not existent anymore. I'll find a cheap copy.

Well everyone enjoying this weather? You people down south are supposed to hit the 80's by Monday! Up here on the island surrounded by natures air conditioning, the temps are only supposed to get to 68-72.

As GJ probably knows, I'm heading up to Anacortes on Sunday to check out a 74 (which as it turns out may actually be a 75..) standard Beetle. It's not a Baja like I wanted, but the guy is willing to trade straight across for my diesel. So we'll see how that goes. In the mean time I'm having to clean my truck, put the canopy back on, and make sure everything is working as it should.

Hopefully with the nice weather this weekend, I'll be able to make a little more progress on my 79. That is, after I get off work Speaking of which, I stupidly agreed to spend this afternoon working out at a ranch for a lady I've worked with before. I sure would have like to have the afternoon off..

Hopefully that deal goes well Jameson.

As for me down here, the weather is pretty nice. Sitting in the sun it feels like its already in the 80s. I finally got the pack of fuses I ordered for the beetle, all the fuses besides 1 in my rise panel were the wrong rating. After replacing them, my wipers work now and the generator light and oil light come on when the key is on and the engine is off (koeo?) I haven't started it yet because I want to replace the spark plugs since I have them. I'm still trying to figure out why the fuel gauge doesn't work. I found the sender unit wires (right on top of the fuel tank out in the open where I can easily reach ) and found out that one wire isn't connected to anything. One goes to the gauge, and the black wire that kind of resembles a ground doesn't seem to go anywhere. it pairs up with the main wire in a loom then on the other end it just hangs there.

I tried grounding it and the other one but got nothing out of the gauge so I am thinking the gauge itself is broken.

Older VW used a cable fuel sender. On the back of the gauge is a zeroing screw.

At the tank you should have a lever arm to move the cable OR it could be electric.

Nah it's electric, it has 2 wires on top of the sender and one goes the black of the fuel gauge. I'm not sure where this second one goes so I'll have to find out.

Ground most likely.
I liked the older mechanical one.

It seems like the mechanical one would be easier to troubleshoot but if you ever set anything ontop of it, it might stop the cable from moving.

The tire could sit on it and still work for the ones that were too lazy
to stuff it back in the tire hole. The cable had a recess that it sat in.

Ah ok. I didn't know you could cram a tire up there. I'm not used to having a tire that's like... 3 inches wide. It sure was nice to be able to lift the tires with one hand to move them. I also found it interesting that the windshield washer bottle is pressurized by the spare tire.

Happy Monday everyone!

Hopefully all you guys have been taking advantage of this beautiful weather we've been having?

My weekend was kind of a drag. I worked both Saturday and Sunday. The way our store is designed, there are 4 huge windows in the front facing the street. Even with the front door, garage door, and side windows open, the temperature inside the store reached 75 And to top it all off, Sunday was dead as a door nail for business.

On the plus side, I have the engine in my 79 almost ready for removal. Just have to get myself a engine hoist first...
