sounds like timing and tuning issues.

yeah Justin is gonna send me his timing meter when somebody gets done with it.......

this morning i advanced my timing a touch and the truck sounds better and the EGT's are also back down to acting like the did with my old IP. Internal fuel screw is maxxed out. gonna check for drive pressure leaks tomorrow. how might i go about checking for boost leaks on this system?

Got the trans doing pretty good again as well.

[QUOTE='94IDITurbo7.3;13116247]EGT's aren't as bad as i thought they were yesterday, boost doesn't happen until 2K rpm.

I need to lower my idle too. idle right now is about 850 rpm. maybe then my cold idle will do something lol.

Adjust your wastegate after you get her timed. Also the cold advance is adjustable. The plunger on mine is threaded.
Getting the turbo spooling sooner should help your egts also.

yeah. i'm not even worried about the WG right now b/c it takes a WOT(gov @3500rpm) run to hit 15 psi.

i would love to need my WG. that would mean i am making boost lol.

i have it plugged right now, but nothing other than the WG head/diaphragm holding the flapper shut. DP get's high enough to push the WG flapper open.

checked for boost leaks today at school. at first i pressurized the system to 15psi, it would leak off about as fast as i put the air in LOL. so out came the smoke machine(thing is sweet BTW lol). turns out where the compressor housing mates up with the CHRA it is leaking. i was able to tighten up the bolts that hold the housing on, that helped with the leak a touch, but didn't totally seal it up. will have to take the comp housing off to seal it up. is there a o-ring that goes there to seal it. I know any boost leaking out is doing nothing for spool, but the leak is not that big at all. i don't see how this little leak is taking all my boost......

Racin' is thinking that my pyro is off based on my egt's......idle is about 200....cruise on flat ground at 55mph is about 400-500*F. But i'm not putting out much smoke at all really.

Here is a video of my smoke...took it right to the gov(3500rpm).....https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v...2468852&type=3

i'd really like to get this figured out b/c of all the time and money i have spent on this thing, but after these past couple days i have pretty much just given up on this thing and lost all hope. i am to the point now that i really don't care. If this thing threw a rod on the way to work tomorrow i really wouldn't give a flying you know what.....i really wish i had just got a $14 replacement mechanical lift pump and some cheap a$$ IP now. Nothing against Justin by any means, but this engine is just a lost cause. Anyways, even if i/we figure out what the issue is i'm not gonna be able to do anything about it b/c no matter what it is, it's gonna cost money and that is money i don't have. If i had known that a constant supply of fuel(lift pump) and a modded IP was going to feel and be the exact same as the stock lift pump that put out 0psi when getting on the throttle good and a $350 IP i would have just done that route again. i thought spending some good money on quality stuff would actually get me somewhere with this engine, but all it did was make my already light wallet, lighter.

At the end of the day i have just given up with this thing. It's also safe to say i will NEVER own an IDI again. I understand this truck is 20 years old with unknown maintenance by previous owners so it's gonna have issues. i'm fine with that, but this truck has been anything but cost effective, like almost every single IDI owner claims them to be.

these old rigs will nickle and dime ya to death.keeps ya on your toes.
i always ran the f150's in my youth.way cheaper.of course these days any truck is expensive just to drive now, never mind repairs.
ah well, you can't let a little boost leak get ya down too bad.once you fix it,you'll get to enjoy the new parts...........then something else will break.

Eric, dont get too hasty.... Well get your stuff figured out, and you will be more than happy... Sometimes you just have to step back, take everything in, and beat your head against the wall a bit... Your IDI is just like any other, you just have little quirks to deal with.

Hold out man...

When you get it right, you will see a difference. Doesn't take much at all on your timing to make a big difference on performance. Don't give up!
