Best Place to Buy Updated Brake-Control

I'm looking at getting the up-dated brake-controller for a '05 F 250, the ones that will apply trailer brakes when standing still. I have the built in one from Ford now and I need the part number and best place to buy it.

Why are you replacing it? The problem is you loose the integrated
things like the ABS. Aftermarket and you truck will not be talking to
the controller.

Why I want to replace the stock brake-control on a '05 F250, is because I am getting "check trailer" on the dash panel with no trailer connected, the connectors on the trailer hitch receiver and in the box are both nice and clean. I was told if I get a controller for a '06 or '07, I will also have the ability to apply trailer brakes when standing still. Is this correct?

Yes, it is correct that a 2006-7 controller would apply the trailer brakes at all truck speeds. You can find them on e-bay or at salvage yards, or the dealer for that matter.

However, that may not fix your check trailer error. I would first double check all the wiring at the plug on the truck, any condensation or corrosion can cause errors.

I have not tested it as there is not a trailer sitting here yet.
But the 06 will not set the brakes when parked. Because it
is a proportioning controller there will be less at lower speeds.
So the TBC knows how fast your moving and how much brake you are applying.
It then puts out an electrical that is in proportion to that. So if you not moving
you don't get trailer brakes. That has been the problem with some small
inspection stations and officers. You can't test it the same way.
There is a document from Ford (I think) that goes into this
that you can show the scale/inspector so you don't get the ticket
I can look and se if I still have a digital copy.

Just wondering, why do you need the trailer brakes applied if you're standing still ?

Here's the bulletin you're thinking of, it's from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. http://www.cvsa.org/programs/documen...2001-04-05.pdf

The issue wasn't them not applying w/ the brake pedal, the issue was that the 2005 model years wouldn't even apply w/ the slider unless you were moving 15-20mph. As far as I know, it was only the 2005's.

Yes, That is the one I was thinking about. I guess my memory is
not as sharp as I remember it to be.
