Well. I went from a 2008 f350 4x4 with the 6.8/4:10- to a California found old man owned 1999 rust free cream puff Chevy 2500 suburban with the 7.4/4:10-4x4. Lifted. Beautiful. 90k on the odo.
Now after 6 months with her- I find a 2005 V10 excursion 4x4 with the V10. Only 70kmiles.
Comparing the 99 vortec 7.4/4:10 to the 05-6.8/4:10 which truck is easier to work on? Easier to maintain? Better all around?

I can say after owning a 2000 tahoe, 2004 yukon xl denali and currently an 07 yukon xl denali that there is absolutely no comparison in the creature comforts and "drivability comfort" between these and the EX.
Other 3 GM's have / had never seen a dealership or transmission shop.
Out of 115k accumulative mileage, a couple of front hubs, a starter, 1 battery, and 1 ot 2 water pumps. THAT'S IT.
The tahoe we sold over 7 years ago to a friend, the 04 last year to a neighbor. Still driven daily.
That being said, I know you are comparing the HD version of those GM vehicles. But I have had excellent reliability with them. I've spent way more on the EX in accessories / improvements / mods. Some were almost necessary to improve handling etc.
I still would rather the EX than the 07 denali any day of the week.
After the EX everything else seems closterphobic.......and not BADass
Dogmann, I owned a '99 K2500 7.4L 4.10 Sub for many years, replaced it with present '03 6.8L 3.73 X. I feel that the X, for us, is a much better vehicle. Tows better, much better brakes, and actually better mileage all around!! I would like to have lower ratio axles, maybe in future.
The Suburban did ride better, felt more car-like in town, and was a bit easier to work on and under.
Towing a 9000# trailer, the X does a much better job, even with the 3.73's. I can run passes here in WA & OR generally at 10-15 mph more and keep up with traffic. If slowed down on hill, the X will pick up the speed quicker than the 7.4 Sub. I always felt the Sub was a bit of a dog. It was properly tuned and maintained!!!
We'll the 5.3 and 6.0 gmc engines are notorious for sheering off the manifold bolts.
Also the 01-06 burban's and tahoe 's are notorious for their dash and speeddo's to go out.
thank goodness the Ford v10s don’t do any of that 🤪
it tickles me to read people’s bias toward their brand over another. They complain about the others problems while forgetting about theirs
