And don't come up with suppliers etc.. the losses they have now could have retired everyone involved comfortably and then some.
To me, it goes even further. They took the bailout money and then LIED about paying it back on national television.

GM's Phony Bailout Payback - Reason.com

The price they at which they are buying back the stocks is much less than half price of the break-even price. It would need to be $70 a share to break even. They are buying them back at $27. That's going to cost the tax payers an additional $12 - $13 billion.

The general consensus on this here forums is that the Excursion is overall more truck like and badass whereass the 'Burban is an overgrown minivan.
touché

I considered the suburban for my needs and discovered they don't hold a candle to the ex. then I found a powerstroke ex for a decent price and the rest is history.

To echo what my other Ex brothers are saying; the Burb rides like a car because it has the refined suspension like a car; hence the sloppy, mushy drive. The moment you start driving the Ex, you know you're driving a truck. It has the feel & the heavy duty parts of a Ford Superduty. The Ex is a beast, Ford Engineers did their due diligence when designing the monster; it has been said the Ex was over built. Fords slap in the face "replacement" of the Excursion has been the Extended EL Expedition. If you want looks & refinement; go with the Burb. If you want durability & power (not to mention room!) go with the Ex. I have owned my beast for 2 years & I am still amazed at some of the things this truck can do. Good luck

Let me throw some more gas on these flames.

I've owned two (2) Suburbans (2000 Yukon XL and 2001 Yukon XL Denali), and now own my 2nd Excursion after putting 180K on the first one. I burned up the 5.3 L engine in the 2000 and roasted the tranny in the 2001. Neither Yukon XL was over the quoted GCWR. Maybe my experience would have been better with a 3/4 ton with 8.1L, but I came to truly distrust GM tow specs.

I bought the Excursions so I could tow a trailer AND haul my family in comfort. They work great at that. I now really trust the 11,000 tow rating. I tow very heavy with my Excursion and get away with it.

Excursions, to be honest, are clumsy and difficult to drive around town. My wife will not drive our Excursion, even though she enjoys riding in it. She had adapted well to the Yukon XL and enjoyed driving it.

My verdict:

If you want a truck that can tow heavy and doubles as an SUV, buy an Excursion.

If you want a SUV that is comfortable to drive but that cannot tow, buy a Suburban.

Not quite; my Ex rides smoothly with it's stock suspension and I only tow my snowmobile and it is comfortable to drive and easy for me to manuever around town, also the Burbs can tow a lot but not as much as the Ex so for me the Burb would have worked but I like the V-10 power and the extra room the Ex has. The heavy Ex chassis is really not needed for me but nice to know it is there.

My Ex is my daily driver... I don't find it hard to drive or clumsy at all. It made my Crown Vic feel like I was driving a Civic though...

I was stuck driving a 2002 Focus for a week not too long ago and it was terrible... you have to jump up instead of down to get out, you can't see over even the smallest snowbank... the only upside was making the chicks at Tim Horton's have to bend to give me my coffee

Seriously though... if it could get the diesel's 18-20mpg I would consider my V10 perfect.

I currently own (3) burbs 88 (350) 3/4ton 4x4, 95(350) & a 06 (305) 1/2 tons 2WD's. Also own a 00 X V-10 4X4. So FLAME ON
You did not state if you are looking at 2WD or 4X4 SO here io my 2c:
If your looking at 4X4 to really use the X is hands down the answer..
If your wanting a 2WD to tow up to 8000#s (on the road) & get 15MPG (when not towing !!) the Sub is the answer. I really don't know where any one gets off saying the X is SO MUCH BIGGER?? Even my 95 has a larger & more thought out interior than the 2000 X ?? Hell, Just last week I removed the middle seats in the X cause I got tired of nothing staying on the seat when it was layed down (99% of the time) !! It does not fold FLAT & not even my spare @ 150#'s (37x12.5x16.5) would ride on top of it for more than a 10 -15 miles. REALLY, a 2000 with the spare inside the truck!! The 06 burb gains 3 to 4 MPG over the 95 & lost 10gals of tank capacity BUT at least it puts the nasty a** spare tire under the truck..

The interior dimensions between the two aren't that different, and The Ex is 7" longer than the Suburban.

Thanks for those specs. It is 131 cu ft VS 146 for the Ex so the Burb has 90% of the Ex's cargo space and I wonder if they included the spare tire.

personally, the spare inside is wonderful! have you ever been outside with a truck thats packed full of snow on the underside trying to get the spare down? trust me it being inside the warm truck makes a HUGE difference and doesn't hurt room at all.
