2005 Ford V10 excursion vs a 2005 Chevy Suburban 2500 6.0 gas
Which would you choose???
Depends on what your needs are. The 'Burban will likely get better fuel economy, handle better, and ride better. But the 6.0L engine is going to be seriously lacking in low-end torque compared to the Excursion. What do you plan on towing?
I'm sure everyone here on a Ford truck site would choose the Suburban!
Some of us can reflect on the weaknesses of vehicles we've owned and make a relatively impartial recommendation. There's a reason the Excursion was discontinued but the Suburban lives on. Excursions aren't for everyone.

Because they couldn't stand paying for more gas as the gas prices continued to rise. They cried Uncle

what is your intended useage? I have both in the driveway, well a close enough for a Mandarin Oranges to Oranges discussion
I have the upgraded 6.0 in my Escalade and that thing is FAST! 345HP...and I'm pretty sure that's a de-rated value! I think the 2005-2006 model Suburbans got the same motor...early 6.0 and non Caddy motors were rated for less HP
I did a ton of test driving and shopping for Suburbans and Excursions. With 4 kids...the Excursion fits us all better.
But...the wife likes the Suburban and Tahoe because they are easier to drive. They truly do drive like cars. You should test the turning radius on them. Especially the high end models like a Denali or Escalade...it's amazing how tightly they turn.
Motor wise, the V-10 is a clear winner in the grunt department. Smooth application of power and it just goes and goes. The 6.0 takes a little provocation to get going...but then it flies off the handle. Driving with the 6.0 is kinda like driving a car with a large cam and a big stall converter. I like it actually, and the 6.0 is zoom zoom zoom.
that reminds me...stupid 6.0 likes to have a rough idle. I've been trying to kill that stupid miss/stumble, but apparently it's a trait of the motor.
my V-10 is smooth as butter. with the windows up, my motor is actually smooth enough that I can "forget" that the motor is running. really nice actually
I will say this though with having both vehicles in the driveway. My X is a 2002 model with 82,000 miles on the clock. My Escalade is a 2005 model with 66,000 miles on the clock. The interior quality for the GM product is substandard to the Ford. Hands down.
Cracked dash...peeling paint from interior trim pieces...leather didn't hold up as nicely.
take a good look at the 2 vehicles and you'll see what I mean. GM products aren't that well put together in those years.
all that being said...I would probably get the Suburban for my wife. Especially if all you need is a people hauler that gets decent MPG's and has good power. They're easy to drive and pretty straightforward with the pushrod V-8. If you tow, or just want a truck...get the Excursion. Don't mistake it for a wishy washy SUV. It's a truck!

Amen to that. I looked at a Yukon from around the same year and the dash and switches were complete junk. Gauges not working, needles dropped, switches not working or half working, ac switch stuck on, temperature dial not working, window motor and/or switches dead, etc etc. Had way less miles than my excursion and my excursion has none of these issues.
Complete piece of junk. Only good thing about it was the (denali model) 6.0 , it was running strong. Told my wife it probably needed an entire new dash to get it up to my standards. No thanks.
We'll the 5.3 and 6.0 gmc engines are notorious for sheering off the manifold bolts.
Also the 01-06 burban's and tahoe 's are notorious for their dash and speeddo's to go out.
Probably should be comparing the Expedition and the Suburban............a 1/2 ton Sub compares pretty well with an Expedition.........The Excursion was a 3/4-1 ton, while the 3/4 T Suburban isnt nearly as heavy duty......GM managed to keep costs lower, by standardizing many of the components across both 1/2 and 3/4 ton Subs( including an identical body), and many of these parts were also used in GM pickups........during this same time period, Ford had the increased costs of production runs of F150's, Expeditions, F-Super Duty's, Excursions.........GM had a 65 year head start in building such a large SUV. Dont get me wrong, ive got no doubt that the Excursion is a better vehicle, especially with a diesel. I wonder if Ford has considered offering a HD Version of the Expedition?

Well I guess all the fixes are in the Burb forum........hope I'm never reduced to that.

Only if we hit a billion barrel pocket of oil in the US somewhere.
What I thought too....
The US will become the biggest oil producer in the world. This is perfect. The middle east will run dry and we'll have all the cards.
