I guess the cardboard needs to be cleaned, and it's cleanly cut. When lowering down, use the cardboard as a safety thing, but still extremely careful not to jam down on it.

Yep.

I am not a metallurgist and proof is in the pudding that the little frame fastener bracket will take the weight.....but no way in hell I would use that method. All it takes is one ooops and you're fkd.

I would bend a chain link and washer it to the head over that any day.

Just my opinion

I'll have to go look at mine but for some reason I don't
think it's welded but done on a press break. So I will
post a photo later.

Initially I used 1 piece of metal going across. It slided a bit and almost scratched the valve cover gasket surface.

So I ended up using a bed rail above. Using a non-scale print out, I lined up at the bottom of the angle steel. The large hole is an existing hole intentionally lined up to reduce number of drill. So I only drill 2 holes. The other two small holes are just existing hole not used. The two bolts came from STC fitting upgrade left over.

The nuts are for shimming. No welding. The large flange nuts go to the bottom to protect gasket surface.
