i tried my truck with an open down pipe and when you let off the throttle when over 2Krpm it would pop and should like chit.
Uhh.. ya.. anything with an open down pipe does. Popping is not good though, it shouldnt do that, and i cant think of what would cause it on a diesel. Maybe a bent valve or something.
But if you havent tried straight piping it.. my only advice is to do so. worst case scenario you can throw the muffler back on. What kind of muffler are you running anyway?
but a glasspack- turbo style muffler? Thats killin your whistle man.. if youre dead set on a muffler get chambered muffler, something like a flowmaster (but not a flowmaster cuz they suck).
If my cousin can figure out how to get it of his phone and i can figure out how to get it on the forum, youll have a sound clip of my truck and you can decide for yourself.
Ya the fiberglass-like insulation in the muffler absorbs the sound coming from the engine, however high frequencies are absorbed.. better/easier than low.. kinda like speakers, you always want a tweeter mounted high with nothing in front of it (high pitch like a whistle) but it doesn really matter where you put a sub let alone which way its facing (low frequency)
So lets say your muffler is a trunk, you can put a sub in it, but you dont want to put tweeters in there... lol.. im having too much fun right now..
Oh that's a killer deal! Shoot and to think I was trying to get 800 out of mine I'm selling...guess ill toss it up for 1400$ so mine looks like a sweet deal I wish lol
BTW, i should mention that the silver paint i used on my turbo, x-over pipe, & up-pipe is holding up GREAT. i was told that it would stink really bad and then peel off from the heat. i had none of that.
thing sounds mean at idle and off idle. upper rpm's don't really sound different....whistle hasn't changed any amount worth noting. overall i am happy with the sound of it at idle and off idle. i am sure it is louder under throttle but being in the cab i can't tell.
