Jeff, You think those hills are something? Wait until you get to AK. Is the ferry going to Haines, Seward or Valdez? If it docks in Whittier you'll get to go under the mountains in a couple of cool tunnels.
Any one of those and you will see some beautiful mountains, not hills, mountains.
I used to love the road going out of Valdez into Thompson pass up past Worthington Glacier. I also enjoyed the road to Seward from Anchorage when it goes over Turnagain pass. Bear valley out of Whittier is pretty spectacular also.
Hey Jeff, man we're starting to worry about you, sure hope you can find wifi soon. We don't want you to get lost up there in cold country to never be heard from again, we miss you man, Garry
Come on guy how can I enjoy my road trip if you don't let me know how it's going.A lot of us wish we had the ***** to try what you are doing.Keep the updates comming.

Still here guys, just outside of San Francisco right now. Meeting some folks from my teardrop forum to pick up a suv tent. Still trying to find that elusive wifi connection, guess I'm gonna have to stay in a private campground for a night. Can't be any worse than the kalifornia state parks..... they are killing my budget I have over 700 pics to load, so you'll have something to look at then
Page 5 and I'm just now reading this thread? Yikes! From the title I didn't recognize it as the "Alaska or Bust" thread. Please keep posting as I hoped to make a similar trip this summer, but the wife was dragging her feet on it. I'm now down to having my brother go with me in three years when I get to retire. I'm sure your trip will provide a lot of inspiration for me!
So far, my truck has made it about 1/2 mile going from one driveway to the other.
Got... to.... get..... out.... If I don't soon say goodbye to the Republik of Kalifornia, I might be too broke to do so. Between fuel and outrageous camping fees, they are killing me.
I know everyone has been looking for pics, so here's what I have so far. I'm having problems with loading more on my laptop, so it might take a while to get the rest. https://plus.google.com/photos/10934...O2ltsTPysOhtQE
Nice pix! And, I wish I could leave CA also. Taxes too high! Fees too high! Too many liberals voting for their representatives to give a government handout! And every year we have to battle against one LA liberal or another trying to pass restrictive laws on old vehicles. This was once a great state. Now, it's a haven for those who don't want to work and expect the gov to hand them money! The well is about to go dry. Jag
Hey Mech,
I see that tear drop trailer all shiny metal with a little pop up
vent on the top. You appear to have gone through Death Valley & Borax - How hot does that thing get? Are you cooking in there?
We drove that area last summer - It was unbelievably hot & I'm from Texas. How's the truck holding up?
I have always wanted to see the GC. Thanks. That second campground looks a lot like the one used in the movie RV with Robin Williams where he was trying to empty the septic tank (funniest part of the movie). I have decided I will make that journey (one day) after reading this thread; all the way to Alaska. Thanks for showing all the pictures. I look forward to more posts.

I was lucky I guess when in Death Valley, temps were just in the low 80s. Truck is doing well except for a leaking front seal on the trans, might have to let someone else handle that one. A few years ago I would have straddled a road ditch and pulled the trans myself, but those days have passed.
