Hey Mike, did you get your sled motor back together yet?
I guess the trip was good. How busy was it? Was there a lot of snow? I am hoping to get my sled back together before a major snowfall. I think I have plenty of time. lol
I "think" basically that just needs to be finger tight but you may want to talk to the service department at your local Polaris dealer to confirm that tension.
Ah, the joys of taking apart steel and aluminum parts. May end up snapping that other one and then drilling them out and using some heat and an easy out. Hard to do that in the sled and not melt the track and slides.
With the shaft you are probably better off getting a new/used shaft than spending the time trying to get the bolt out and probably having the shaft threads getting wrecked
Yep it is coming along good! That darn Santorum! LOL

I need help! The dang bolt busted and I need to replace the bearings in that wheel. I also have a stubborn bolt on the other side where a wheel should go. Is it time for a GTG yet?
Hey Cory! I always say it is not a good day unless you bleed at least once! LOL Doesn't look like any fun trying to get that stuff apart but don't worry there isn't any snow in the forecast!

Then why is it 7 days a month women act like it's the worst day of their life?

Yea, I was moving the jack stand and I hit the level to lower it and forgot my hand was near the shaft. BAMO! right onto my hand. I guess no project is complete unless you shed a little blood.
What shaft are you referring to? I think the shaft that is connected to that wheel in the pic is part of the suspension. I don't think I will be replacing suspensionn parts on a $300 sled. I will run it around the yard till it dies first. I just want to get some of the basic maint. stuff done so it is somewhat reliable. Enough to get me to the local watering hole or lake to fish.
I tore into the brakes and OMG! Someone ran it with no brake pads for a while at some point. I removed the pads that were in there now and found the piston to be melted from a little metal on metal grindage. I just hope the new pads will fit, otherwise time to modify.
Jay, I am not sure I like this whole sledding thing anymore. Seems like a boat to me, just a money sucker. lol
They certainly can be. I have put on a LOT of miles the 3 sleds I have/had and it seems to run in streaks. You can go a long time with little investment and then Bamo! as you would say, and you are pouring money into them.
I ran mine for a while with no brake pads. Couldn't figure out why I couldn't stop for crap one weekend. I must have put on about 400 miles with just the backers against the rotor. The rotor was fine. Just put new pads on. I never got all the way to the piston though. Holy Boyles!

Run this sled for a year or two with just minimum maintenance, see if you really like sleds, then get rid of it and buy something a little newer and worry about good maintenance on that one.
His should too once the shaft is all the way out. May be a snap roig holding it but that should be all. If even that. Could just be a collar but probably a snap ring.

Make sure the slack is out of the back side of the chain by turning the secondary clutch a counter clockwise(forward). To set chain tension, finger tighten the tensioner bolt and back off 1/4 turn.
Looks like you are also missing a nut that holds the chain case to the chassis, better get one on there, should be 3/8"(use a nylock nut)
Not yet, Still working on tracking down a set of heads.
It was a good trip. Plenty of snow, in most places. The trails were well used, since it is the only area in the upper midwest with snow(N WI and the UP).
Problem might be holding the shaft to get the other bolt out. May have to grind through a couple spots in the outer cover over the shaft so you can get vice grips on it to hold it
