Something is missing. I don't think that is an air cooled Lycoming.
Speaking of Lycoming engines, they are made in Williamsport PA in Lycoming County about 30 miles from me. At some point Lycoming engines were used in Piper planes.
For those that plan on coming to Truckstock would you be willing to tour the plant? It is 43 miles from Bald Eagle State Park. I thought about going there last year. Since then I spoke to a teacher friend that is the head of personnel. I'll post this question to the TS thread.
Back before the invention of the modern snowmobile there were a few guys up in North Dakota and likely a few other places that used aircraft engines and built snow buggies similar to the aircraft powered swamp boats. But they did put the prop in the rear as do the swamp boats.
Smooth running Hercules JXD 320 cu in engine flathead 6 cylinder, with a Warner T 93 5-speed transmission with Hi/Lo transfer case, 6x6. Field exhaust allows it to purr like a kitty! Original Tulsa front winch works. Four-wheel drive (rear duals) or Six-wheel drive (rear duals plus front axle). 5-speed transmission with high/low transfer case. All gears work. Tires are very very old and need replacing as they are hard and out-of-round.
This one was built late in the war and obviously never left the USA. Still shows "Department of Interior" signage on the doors under the red paint. Surplused and titled in the early 1950's to a farming family located on the slopes of the Blue Mountains above Waitsburg, WA.
