It looks like there are steering levers either side of the steering wheel? I think that the tracks and center bogies were removable so it would go back to being a regular truck.

my thought too. track vehicle for winter snow travel, and tires for summer use.

Looks like camo and the one guy has the campaign hat going. Thus I conclude it is an actual or experimental model of a vehicle used to draw machine gun fire on or near the battlefield......

Massey Harris had the 4wd GP starting in the late 20s or so. Built them into the 30s. That Heer is quite a bit older.

I don't have a picture but driving back to work from lunch yesterday I saw an 65 Mustang with a continental kit.
That sure changed the look of that car. That definitely would not be my aesthetic choice. Maybe I will get a chance to see it again and capture a picture.
