It's been a long time since I seen one of these, there used to be a guy that pushed one around the streets in Toronto when I was a kid, My mom used to have him sharpen her kitchen knives..
we did not have anyone roaming the streets with a sharpen stone cart or wagon, but we did have an old timer out on the highway that had one of those pushcarts in his shop he used.
he is gone a good 50 years now, but his fully stocked shop is still there. his grandkids cut down all the trees on the 1 acre lot with plans of building a hose on it.
once they found the shop they changed their minds and left it as is.
there is a skeleton key lock in the door, but no key is known of for it. and no one has ever messed with the building, contents, or window glass.
Sounds like a time piece Tom. When I was a kid there used to be various vendors that used to go door to door. I particularly liked hearing the steam whistle from the little Mini station wagon set up as a popcorn vendor and candy apples. When you got more into the city there were vendors with roasted chestnuts .
