They're all computer generated composite images of what could be considered cars. The one on the right end of the row ahead of the ship has tail lights, 2 different ones I might add, in the front grille. And as Don astutely noted, not one of them has a steering wheel. 
Looking at some of these abominations, it makes me thankful for actual automotive designers.

Does it control the speed? I would think to turn you lean one way or the other.
I see wheels were added to the outriggers. What is the box in the second picture at the driver's feet?
