Anyone else had and issue like this?
Bummer. But at least the problem got so bad that the solution is obvious. Some owners on this site have trans problems that the techs can't or won't fix.
I have 7,000 miles on my truck and, so far, only have the shuddring problem.

. .
I forgot . . . . How does your 5th wheel tow??? I just got a 37 foot 5th wheel, 14,000 pounds, and I am having real towing problems. My 5th wheel has a jerking feeling, front and back. Like the hitch is loose. Could it be the truck? Does you 5th wheel tow okay?? My dealer is no help.

thanks . . . . . . ken ( I just found out that you have to send 25 messages before they allow you to post a signiture at the bottom of your messages)

Welcome to FTE!

How many miles on your truck? Have you had the dealer check it out? Is it worse when towing something or empty? Is it only during tranny shift?

You know, none of us believe you have a 2011 unless you produce pics. LOL

Haven't heard about the 5-6 shift vibration til now. There is an occasional shift flare reported here and there, whereby the tranny doesn't really upshift but the engine rpm's shoot thru the roof, then when you realize it didn't shift and you let your foot off the go pedal, it will clunk into gear.

My dually shutters when I take off. Only when I'm pulling my 5er tho. Local dealer tech wanted to shim the rear axle to adjust the driveline angle, but FOMOCO said to swap the rear diff. So they did and the problem still exists. A set of air bags would probably fix my issue but I can't talk FOMOCO into it yet.

Let us know if you find out something.

Mine now has 16,000km and the transmission flare is progressively getting worse. Was perfect for 10,000km. Problems from 2-3 and 4-5. When I tow it doesn't have the shift flare, well not as prominent.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for that so you need to take it in for service.

Thanks, I am heading to my dealer to get it done next week and installing Spartan 120hp dpf delete tuner. I am sick of the P164a error code, one way of also fixing it

Don't worry I am in Australia, so warranty is not an issue as they cover it as long as Spartan is used.

It seems other then NOx sensor and transmission problems, I believe these trucks are so far pretty damn good. If they sort these issues out for once and for all, we will only have have how quiet they are to complain about

I have had the same issues as all the rest of you. I have been to 2 diff dealers and met with the engineer D. Myers from ford twice and talked with him after they replaced the trans. still have the same Issues. this is a lot more of a problem then they tell each of us. I have been told that this is not a wide spred issue. Every one tells you a dif answer and they all just trying to cover there own butt . they refuse to work on my truck anymore as the trany slip is caused by me when the truck is in its learning mode. that is because they put another trans in it and it did not fix the problem. the service mngr from the dealer told ford that the engineer from ford took other trucks from there lot on a test drive and the trucks did the same thing. She also told me that all the trucks on there lot made the same sould that mine did when the waste gate solinoid was bad and buzzing. I have hired a layer and am in the process of the lemonlaw. Ford should really have taken care of these busause I think they have a great truck here. I will buy Ford again

The "shudder" or vibration on take off while towing heavy is an issue that has been around since at least 2005.

After doing all the research you will discover that is caused by "axle-wrap", when enough torque is applied to the axle it twists the leaf springs a little, creating a winding/unwinding of the spring.

The Ford fix was a drive line angle adjustment, but if you went too far it would shudder with no load.

This shudder has occurred on every SD I've had, (03,05,08 and 2011 F450).

My 2011 F450 clearly has a very confused transmission. I have not done the servo changes and programming upgrade yet that apply to my truck, but I hope it works. But, it won't fix that initial shudder on take off when towing my 5th wheel. My 08 F350 DRW was the worst of all the trucks I've had on the shudder, but it's transmission shifted great all the time.

Once I get the work done I will post and let you know .

Still not right!!

Had the parts changed in trans and a reflash
It worked for a while BUT it is back bucking and my fuel mileage fell again
Back to 15.2 from 18 ish. Hell i hit 19 going to PA.

Why does this come back?

After a flash it is a great truck for a 1000 miles or so
But then the regens pick up to every 100-150 miles
The trans act like a old junk trans with 400 k on it

What gives?

Ford acts like this is all new to them
