2011 trans trouble

Ok I am new to site but have been following it for several months. I decided to go ahead and get out of my 08 f350 6.4 dually and bought a new 11 6.7 f350 SRW long bed crew cab. I know that there was a trans flash update so I was going to wait and have it done at the first. Well I started noticing a very hard 6-5 down shift a couple of weeks ago. To make story short, with 3000 miles on my truck the trans is now on the floor of the dealer to try and figure what went bad. I do have a 38' 5er 13000 lbs and only 80 miles towing. Anyone else had and issue like this?

First of all, welcome to FTE...You are among friends...sorry about your transmission

Irritating and erratic shift issues have plagued a few owners...most are happy now...broken transmissions sitting on dealership floors have been almost unheard of...please keep us posted as to the failure as your followup will add to the accumulated information

Regards

Sorry to hear. Welcome to the ever growing club of 6.7 owners with all kinds of issues. It looks like yours has taken an additional step of removing the trans. Most of the problem trucks just get flashes, and re flashes, and shrugged shoulders. Do a search on hear you will find plenty of company.

Yea, having the transmission removed is a new one to me.
Did you get a CEL prior to your transmission ending up in a service bay?
Keep up with them to find out what went wrong and keep us updated.

That aside, the shifting problems is nothing new with some percentage of 2011 trucks.
6.7L diesel and 6.2L gas models.
Some owners have had their issues resolved, some continue to have issues; mine included.
Check out the Auto transmission topic a few below this one.
You'll be busy reading for awhile and there are other older topics around here.

Sorry to hear about your transmission problems. I am a bit behind you on mileage, about 1700 on my ticker. I have noticed some rough shifting and the "sputter" that others have reported. No CEL's here and I haven't been to the dealer for anything. I will keep an eye on it.

By the way, are you throwing in any ham gear in your truck? My install will be a continuous process over the next few months. I am enjoying every minute of it. Never mind everything got yanked out of my twisted up rolled 2010

Thanks to all for the welcome. I thought the flash was going to solve it also. There were no cel's and my issue was with downshift from 6 to 5. It would shift down under light load and it would shift very hard and seemed like the lockout was disengaging creating a 2nd shift within 5th gear. Ford had the tech pull the pan and he found metal filings in the pan. So it is something internal. Otherwise I love this truck.
