This article talks about the My Ford system. We don't have that in our trucks. Trust me, I'm not a Sync fan - and it certainly impacted my survey results in the accessories & appointment section of the survey.
"New models score lower: For the first time since 2007 newly introduced models from all automakersscored lower, on average, on the Initial Quality survey than last year's round of new models. Last year 17 all-new or redesigned models ranked at the top of their respective segments. This year, only seven did.
Problems with new technology was one cause of trouble for new models, another was unsatisfactory engines and transmissions."
That's pretty sad when a vehicle can't even stay trouble free long enough for the customer to get the initial customer survey filled out.
116 out of 100 is probably more like 175 out of 100 or more had the survey been delayed another couple months.
I hope Ford can fix these trucks and for those of you who have good ones keep your fingers crossed they stay that way. You are the ones with the isolated abnormal good ones.
It's funny how some here think you need to dealer shop and have a printed out description of how they should fix your vehicle. ( I'm sure they are going to take your instructions anyways)
It's not the customers responsibilty to have to help Ford fix these trucks if there's even a fix for them which I doubt.
Bottom line....I've based all of my comments on what I know. Talking with the hotline engineers, asking about failure frequencies, areas of failure, and amounts of warranty claims. I've inquired at several "tech only" websites about problem areas in these vehicles. And personal experiences. I dont doubt your claims of failures and those around you, but widespread, no. Many times I've listened to customers comment on "Where are the dozens of trucks backed up that I've always heard about?". There just isn't any. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they were, then I would have work!
Ok just an update on trans, the dealer replaced several parts in the 4,5,6 gear range as well as valve body. They were very accomadating as I needed my truck for the weekend to tow my 5er to a bbq comp I was entered in. Truck seemed to shift ok but I am now noticing a 3-4 shift flare just before upshift and also irractic 5 upshift. The hard downshift seems to be corrected. So in long run tranny still not correct.

Did it do it immediately, or after a period of time when you got it back?
I am aware of the relearning process but the dealer wants to check it anyway. This was the first new tranny torn down by them and the want to check it. Plus they want to check the front end alignment as the tires have heavy inside edgewear.
I think that is most of the problem! Mine shift firm after a reset but softens up like a 200,000 mile trans low on fluid
Something is screwing up my MPG also
If my dealer clears and restart the learn process, my transmission understands what to do.
Fast forward to 1,500+ miles later, and the 2-3 missed gear issue comes back and stays there.
At first it was around 3,000 miles but became less over time.
So my issue can't be hardware otherwise a learning reset wouldn't resolve it for a few thousand miles.
Something crazy with the TCM or whatever other module is involved.
I'm fine with the firm shifts. It's a big truck so that's no issue but missing a shift on a busy road shouldn't happen with any new transmission.
KA2RKV - glad to hear the truck is rolling again. I just checked back to see your updates. Keep us in the loop on the work. It sounds like the dealer is being helpful in your issues.
Is there a way "we" can re-set our "learned" driving? As in, some button sequence or mode to stick the computer in to reset this, or is it a dealer re-program or something only they can do?
I question this because when I picked up my truck it was on the open road at 7 miles on the clock. I don't know if this would make anything a little weird with the shifting, but I have been wondering if that is something that may have an affect on my system performance and if it would change with a re-set. The throttle response seems a bit "touchy" and I sense a bit of a stutter when I am in a low gear starting out slow, say in 2, and then push the accelerator down to speed up the engine seems to hesitate a hair and then take off. Not sure if this can be tracked to the learned behavior...
