The camper thread! Pulling, using, equipment, maintenance!
For all you toy hauler owners, I need some opinions. Just sold my Jayco Baja and looking to step into the TH world. Wondering if you can elaborate on why you chose your specific model? I'm looking at the traditional models with inside garage and fold up seating, but also considering the front deck style, too. What did you choose and why?

We often used the garage as semi-outdoor living space and would hang out in there during inclement weather. I would have eventually gotten a screen room to go back there.
My current ‘camper’ is a 7x16 v-nosed cargo trailer with rooftop AC. No mods yet, but we have enjoyed our air conditioned box at the few camping trips we tske that require AC. (We avoid those places because we can tent/hammock camp comfortably here in the N. GA Mountains all summer...)

My requirement was real tires and weight capacity. My bumper pull has a GVW of 13k and with my wifes 50" SXS and lightened gear load we were still over 13k going to Colorado last summer.
My wife and I both required a separate garage, no toys, gas, oil or dirt in the living space. Our son was racing quartermidgets and our old Victory Lane 28SRV bumper pull (I think it had an 11,300lb GVWR) fit the bill with its 12' garage that could hold both of his race cars, spare parts and big generator. Downside was that model didn't have and slideouts, so the living space, while fully functional was on the small side. When not racing and traveling on vacations we fitted the garage out with a carpet cut to fit and cots for our son and up to 3 of his buddies that traveled with us, made a decent little man cave for the guys. For vacations the garage also worked great for hauling lots of bikes (we traveled with another family most trips), bigger grill and various other camp gear with plenty of room to spare. Once he was both aged out and sized out (too tall to fit) of the quartermidgets we traded the TH in on a new big TT with 3 slides which has served us very well in our current needs and traveling style.
Brought it home and instantly had to hit the road to help out my SIL with family drama. Had maybe an hour to show it off to my wife and kids (they approve!). Gave the interior a quick wiped with bleach and hit the road. Hit an RV shop on my way to look at it and they didn't have a WD hitch in stock, so I bought the strongest shank/ball combo they had. Good for 16k and a 2200# TW. Didn't know if the trailer would include one with the purchase, so I didn't want to buy one unless needed.
Experienced zero away even with passing big rigs on single lane highways. The V10 really struggled to keep 70mph in overdrive with the slightest headwind. My guess is the aerodynamics of the front deck is really limiting performance. Having some toys on the front may help with aero as I've pulled much heavier trailers in the past and didn't have this struggle. Figure I traveled about 1400mi and stopping every 250mi to refuel gets expensive fast. My SCII said I averaged 7.5mpg for the whole trip.

Rear bunks were an option, but this only has the single bed. Kitchen is pretty much over the axles and along the road side with dinette being on the curb side. Also has a couch along the front wall that folds down into a decently sized bed. My boys went with me and it was a little snug inside at night, but we all had our own beds and made it work. We don't spend much time inside unless the weather turns bad, which it did, so I hung up a curtain rod/bedsheet and watched a movie on my phones' projector (Pee Wee's Big Adventure) and used a BT soundbar. We had us a good time!
Will likely head out again for a weekend of dirt biking, so we'll load up our 2-strokes facing front and I'll angle the rear tires towards the sides and see if that helps out. Otherwise, I may have to get creative with a rack to hold our paddle board and kayak and try to deflect the wind up and over the top. I did read in one of the manuals I found that the AC unit has a whopping 5w solar panel mounted on it, so that's reassuring knowing that the batteries will be fully charged with that whopper up top (not!). Anyone had luck with one of those wind deflectors mounted on top of their EX?

I think once you fill up that gap between the box and the Excursion with anything you will see an improvement in aerodynamics. I don't think you'll need to get too crazy fabing anything up to help.
