No, But I found enough tools to fill a small toolbox...
Oh, and just yesterday I found $25.00 in my backpack...
And about 6 months ago I found $20 in a book I bought new (Automotive related) and stuck on the shelf, fast-forward 2 years, and boom.
It gets worse. When they opened up the a/c system there's a bunch of green crap on the orifice screen, along with some aluminum shavings. Bud's never seen this green crap before...may be coming from the desiccant bag in the accumulator, but whatever it is and wherever it came from it's in the entire system.
Good thing I've got a couple of days work this week.
Steve, the aluminum is from the compressor. Before you replace the compressor, take the old one off, might as well take the dryer off too and use a liquid flush to the entire system. Relace the dryer with the compressor, if you don't it will fail again as the dryer is more than likely plugged.
Now that is a mess. I will tell you the cause of that. When the system was last serviced, the mech only loaded freon in the system, no oil. The rings on the pistons in the compressor scrapped the walls until it failed. I bet if you take the compressor apart, the pistons will rattle in the walls unless it siezed and melted together.
And mine's just plunking along for over eleven years.
What's with the early failure?
Take Paul's advice about flushing the system completely. There's a special solvent for flushing A/C systems. If interested, catch the solvent as it comes back out in a coffee filter to see the crap.
And replace that accumulator/dryer! Very important when this happens. I believe this is called "Black Death" in the trade.
New expansion orifice (go stock size and not "variable"), and new O-rings anywhere the system is broken open.
I didn't know that OCD would do AC repair. I guess it is a diesel powered AC, but didn't make that leap of logic. What else does his shop do? Ball joints? Brakes?
