Sorry to bring up the burn on this one lol, I am pretty sure it was not something you did, I has some interesting back and forth calls with then when trying to get a more detailed description to as where that plug in the kicker panel was and so on...that paper they gave as instructions was vague to say the least.
On the up side, I still have the box and paperwork, receipt and all they sent me (i think i might be a horder, never toss receipts lol)...heck I still even have the old steering wheel control I pulled out and radio and such...just not the original SDAR, had to canabalize it to make a mount to put the new amp on...Might just give them a ring tomorrow and see what they tell me when I say i want to return it and I have the box lol. Hering how clean your aftermarket one came out, its tempting...
I will post on here and let you know what they say to me when I call tomorrow lol
On the other hand, hope i didn't jack up my BCM also...but I am really leaning to the side that the way the new amp replaces the SDAR it caused something to make the lights not work. Does all your back lighting now work with the aftermarket setup?
Yes, everything is back to normal for me. The only lights that worked on my truck were the radio lights, the HVAC lights and the window lights. Everything else on the truck did not work. If you can get your money back, then that would be the way I would go. The Pioneer set-up is great. Let me know what happens with the phone call. Also, I did the first set-up with the SDARS still installed and I had the same problem. I don't think its that either. My thought is the radio is configured bad or the wiring harness for a non nav is different than the one for the nav type. Either way this does not work. Just a FYI, I tried to reconnect my old radio after I saw the problems and the lights never came back on, PLUS my MIC for the Sync quit working. So thats half the reason I went aftermarket. Thanks your posting, I'm so glad to hear (sucks though) somebody with the same problem.
lol, yea i feel you on that, nice to hear that the problem is not unique to just you...AER told me the same thing when I put the radio in back in like november last year, that they had done several of these trucks and worked just fine. But at that point have not heard of anyone doing it and figured i was the first sorry fool to try. My deal says they have done it with sucess, but wanted to charge me 400 bucks or so to do it, so i did it my self. I figure, i may just let them finish it out..see it all goes back to normal witht the lights. If not then either pull the radio out and go aftermarket...if the orginal takes a dump on me down the road, then can blame it on the dealerships and have them fix it.
at this point i have not cut any wires or done anything drastic, just removed the sdar and put the head unit in...took me 15 minutes to do that! and all of the features on the radio work except voice commands because it does not have the mic hooked up. so I can live with that for now. Just like to figure out why the lights stopped working, it has been near 5 months since i put the radio in and have had no other issues or side affects.
but thanks for your advice, i guess from all this i have learned, if you wan factory nav, buy the stupid truck with it in there from the factory lol.
Well, got the email back and they said no way they could accept the return of the radio due to the fact I opened the box. I told them, sort of a catch 22, have to open the box to get to the instructions and see that this is not just a simple plug and play install.
They told me to try to sell it to someone else, I pointed out that they should review how they discribe this install to people calling and asking about it so they can be better informed before spending 2500 dollars.
But this was from a guy named Adam, I guess Mr. Olson is sick and on sick leave. On another note, hope he will be ok and god speed to a quick recovery.
So guess if you even had the box, you would not have gotten a refund lol, o well...as they say the best lessons in life are the expensive ones lol.
That sucks. I sold mine on eBay for $1000. Nothing like taking a $1500 hit because the person that sold you the goods misrepresented the product. I tried to get them to take the radio back and fix the problem but that was not going to happen either. I guess that will be their last NAV sale after people read this thread. Thanks for serving for us overseas and good luck with whatever you decide to do on the radio. The Pioneer unit is truly a great thing. And I'm a picky person.
Got the truck back from the dealership today, had them finish off the install. Everything works fine. Talked to the tech, he said the Instructions from AER were wrong, he wired the MIC into the SYNC/USB port.
Glad he got the unit in and working fine, just cost me 300 for the install...which probably only took him 10 minutes to do. But worth the peace of mind to know its done right and covered by warrenty now.
