2004 Odometer/Temp LCD Backlight

My LCD display on the right lower part of my gauges that displays the outside temperature, compass, and odometer backlight has gone out. The info is still there but no backlight. Does anyone know if it has a bulb or do I have to change entire module? Thanks.

Unhappy

The only fix we know of at our dealer is, unfortunately, you must replace the entire instrument cluster. The LCD display is not serviceable.

Thanks. I kind of figured that. I guess turning on the dome light would be cheaper.

Smile Bulbs can be replaced

I spoke with an Elec Tech at Dearborn Truck today and he told me the backlight bulb is replacable. A little work to get out but not too bad.

There is a known problem with soldering on the dash circuit bd. If you are handy with tools use a magnifying glass to inspect the soldered connections on the circuit bd. Much cheaper than replacing the dash.

Thanks. I'll definately take a look at that but my source at Dearborn Truck tells me the bulb is replacable.

I don't understand why it would be different than an Escpe and it is replaceable for about $4 for the bulb.

If you can find a source, or better yet a part#, for this bulb please let me know. I have been looking into a fix for this exact problem myself.

I had the backlight go out and had it replaced under warranty.

Did they replace the entire cluster?

No. According to the "paperwork" the technician only replaced the bulb behind the display.

Hmmm... maybe we are getting to the bottom of this. Is there a part # on the paperwork by chance? And, does anyone know if the cluster has to be recalibrated after it is disconnected. I did not think there was room to replace a bulb in the lower right hand corner of the cluster (I have taken the plastic pieces surrounding the cluster off to look at it) without removing it.

I spoke with an electrical technician at the Ford Dearborn Truck Plant and he explained to me how to remove covers to get to the bulb.

Is this without removing the cluster itself?
