Nah you never let me down - you hung in there a lot longer than most would!!!

Will AER take the radio back or exchange it?

When you say the phone works through the truck but the callers can't hear you it sounds like your mic is either disconnected or it's toast. It should still work independent of the SDARS unit.

I will get you some part numbers and see what I can find out about the turn signal speed.

Okay a couple of things on the signal lights:

They are programmed to blink 80 times per minute if both front and rear lights are operating properly.

If there is a bulb outage, the BCM instructs them to blink 160 times per minute to alert the driver of an outage.

The signal lights on the mirrors do not have any sort of bulb outage detection.

If your taillights are the LED type instead of incandescent, the BCM needs to be programmed for this otherwise it will assume you have a bulb out and blink at the 160 times per minute.

Ok thanks. The guy at partsguyEd said without a box he might not take it back? They are still working on it, so I'm not going to comment on that part yet.

ya, like it will say listening..... but acts like it can't hear me? The connections that were spliced into are fine, but I guess something in there got the toaster too. Let me know what I should replace there.

On the turn signal I'm thinking about the mulitfunction switch on the steering column. That could possibly be bad based on other threads I have read. Might start another thread on that one.

Ya, if you could help with part numbers that would be great. I guess I'm going to wait and see what PartsGuyEd does before I order though. If they will only exchange, then I guess I might try again, but if they will refund me, I'll go that route. Thanks again.

I'm in neither one of those boats. All the lights work. Both left and right signal are at that 160 TPM (time per minute, made that up!) But when I turn the hazards on, then they act normal. Some guy said it was the multifunction relay on the steering column or something? Get this though, I showed it to the tech at the dealer and he said, "oh its new programming from Ford that is safer" WHAT???? I just said ok.

Sheesh - really? What a bizarre experience you continue to have with this guy.

Anyways, here are some part numbers and links to the partsguyed website for illustration and pricing estimates:

18C960 - SDARS module (you will need to request pricing)
9C888B - right side steering switch pack
19A391 - microphone

ok, I totally switched gears. I went aftermarket with a Pioneer Z120Bt and it was the decision I should of made in the first place. They shop installed it great. They replaced the USB and 3.5 jack in the SYNC with the Pioneer, and then routed the MIC into the OEM location for the old one. I'm all excited about this. Its a great system with all kinds of feaures. Only problem is I'm suck with the old NAV system? I called parts guy ed Friday and was supposed o get a response Monday.... Nothing. Tried to call today, never reurned my calls. Guess I'm suck with a $2500 radio. Not even a trade for another one. They said because I did not save my box, they could not take it back. Any ideas on how to get part of my money back? I'd sale the system for $1500 and if you have a good realationship with your dealer they could warranty it for you. Is there a for sale forum here?

This has been an amazing adventure. I intended to do the same thing but your experience makes me wonder. I don't think rdenis could handle another one

On your existing Nav unit what makes you think a dealer would warranty it? It seems from the reading that there could, not sure, but could be a problem with it.

On the pioneer do you have voice commands? What have you lost from not using the Nav w/sync?

Yes. Voice commands. The only feature that I lost was silly stuff like the health report. Other than that I lost nothing. The installer integrated it real nice in the dash. Im not a aftermarket guy, I hate that jiggy look it gives the truck. But with this setup it looks awesome. Ill start another post with pics..... On the oem nav, the guy at AER said that I was stupid in not getting the dealer to perform a 1892 or some odd number like that. I think that is code for a warranty return. Maybe I can bypass parts guy Ed and get a replacement directly. Would you be interested in it if I could save you a grand? Because when I have it sent in (if possible) they could program it to your Vin.

Well I am glad you finally got a system that works! And that is a way nicer system than the factory Nav unit. You don't actually lose very much - consider this... the vehicle health reports aren't even available outside the US and they only spit out some diagnostic info you can get from your truck in other ways.

Seriously, when I bought my truck I wanted to go the Pioneer route rather than Factory Nav - but in Canada, if you wanted leather seats and a sunroof, you had to get a Lariat with the Nav - no other option.

Nice unit - please post some pics when you get a chance - that is one sweet HU!

...just curious...what did the Pioneer cost, installed? I am interested in updating my truck to a Nav unit but after your ordeal I am hesitant...

Regards

I paid 2000$ and that was for steering wheel controlls and everything. Also had Xm radio included. The steering wheel does everything the factory one did. The voice button did the voice! I was so pumped about that little feature. I know I could of got it way cheeper online and do it myself, but after my previous ordeal I'll pass on installs!

Lexus, few more follow questions. Seems there is some interest by others here in a similar set up. In my case, I definitely want a nav unit of some sort and am debating the factory nav with fewer features and not as nice of a screen/interface, but "guaranteed" and warrantied to work, vs aftermarket with more features/bigger screen/nicer overall interface, but run the risk of screwing something up via install. With that in mind, if you can confirm the following, I'd appreciate it:

- Do you have the factory b/u camera hooked up? If not, any idea if this can be integrated into the Pioneer?
- Any new antenas on the roof, drilling, etc? If you didn't have Nav before, I presume you'll need a new GPS antena with the Pioneer. Not sure if the trucks come with some sort of pre-wired XM/Sirius antena that can also be used with the Pioneer. Bottom line, curious if going aftermarket puts any more clutter on the roof.
- Is there an option for DVD in motion, similar to what LockPik will do for the factory Nav?

Otherwise, doesn't sound like you lost much at all in terms of what Sync offered

You were reading my mind with those questions. It looks like you need a separate satellite receiver as well. If so, does the current satellite antenna work with your new setup.
