nah, I just got back from there. They are going to replace the OEM radio and fix everything else. I just had all I could handle. I could not focus at work because of it. They are going to have to replace the...
Steering wheel right hand control
Sat. DLP
Fix wiring on the passenger kickplate
Fix wiring harness running to DLP.
Do you think they can fix this stuff? The wiring harness has me worried that they won't fix it. I'm bummed out, but I have to have this truck for work. Thank god its in the winter.
Are you kidding me? That seems fricking insane. How do they get from bad BCM output to replace the entire audio system?
Wow....
Please please please tell me they are doing this all under warranty.
nope..... I'm paying for it. I just don't have the time to do anything about it. Like I said, I have to have the truck so they kind of have me by the *****. They are the only dealer around so its my only option. I appreciate your help so much, and I feel bad that after all your work this is the way it goes down. I'll still be happy to give you some PayPal. But at this point I don't know what else to do? I don't want to take the risk of it happening again.
The saga continues. The tech at the dealer can not figure out how to reinstall the DLP for the satellite saying he does not know where it goes on the truck. Holy SMOKES! SO, I just said, fix the damn BCM and give me the truck back. Don't touch the Nav screen or anything. So they said ok, but we are going to leave the NAV unplugged so we don't take fault when that is hooked back up and it blows the BCM again. So my thinking is, should I send the radio back to AER tech. and let them really see if there is a short or something? Or are they just plain crazy. IF I do just go ahead with the install back, do I just need to disconnect the battery? Also can you tell me which pin the purple wire on the ACM connector is?
IMHO your tech is either a complete moron or he is so lazy he can't even be bothered to look up where the SDARS module is located in the truck. I just looked it up - its on page 15 of cell 151. I can't believe the pile of dung this has turned into.
Outside of bench testing the Nav unit yourself you either take a chance that your dealer tech is full of **** or you send it back. Personally, I think they are full of **** from everything I have seen.
If I were you I would get my truck back ASAP (let them replace the BCM first). Then pull the Nav Unit out and I can walk you through a few tests (off truck) to see if there really is a ground issue. You will need a multimeter that can measure resistance if you don't already have one. You can pick up a cheap one at any hardware store, autoparts store, Walmart, etc.

Let me know when you get your truck back.
Ok, I'm going to get the nav back tomorrow and let you tell me what to do. I do have a mulitmeter, so if you know what to do to see if the nav is bad I'm all for it! The truck will not be ready till Thursday. I just contacted AER who does these nav sales and they have said they have done over 20 of these installs on sync vehicles with the instructions they provided and they all work. So what im doing wrong I do not know? I just wonder if the ACIM is blown too?
Can they bench test the Nav radio at the dealer to see if it is bad? I doubt they did this. We buy our fleet trucks from this dealer. (5-10 a year) So, next year I know who is not getting our business. I reminded the service guy of this too, but apparently he does not care. Should tell the owner, but nah, ill let the money do the talk.
ok, I recieved the radio and got my mulitmeter out of the truck. What all do I need to be doing while I wait for the truck? Also, will they give me the old BCM? I mean, it is my property right? I want to ship it to you as a gift. haha!
Okay I added a couple of things to your picture to help orient us when I tell you what to test:
Before we start testing, I want to understand how the kit you bought rerouted the wiring harnesses for the new Nav System:
1) I would expect that C-240A above on the truck side of the harness must have been rerouted through the new AMP and then the AMP would have a new harness connector coming back to the NAV radio at C-240A. Perhaps something like Truck harness connector C-240A female to new AMP Adaptor Harness Male to new Nav Radio Connector C-240A female to back of Nav Radio.
2) C240B above is for the rear camera - do you have a rear camera in the truck and is there an adaptor for it in the kit? If you do I presume it is wired to your rearview mirror at the moment.
3) C240C above handles the SYNC connections from the APIM as well as SDARS connections for ealy build trucks. The kit should not have had any modifications of this connector other than to disconnect the SDARS module and to add the MIC splice, correct?
