Don't forget that there are variations in core support and radiator mounting. Both of my trucks have FE's but I test fit a Mark VIII fan in one of them the other day and didn't have the clearance that Josh has because of the bigger radiator. Some mount on the front flange of the rad which moves it closer to the engine while others mount on the rear flange which sets the it forward into the core support. Then you have the OP with a custom aluminum rad which could be a completely different story.

I might put the fan thing on hold. I just caused a big scene at the pyp. I even called ahead to ck the price for a dual fan and shroud. I call the manager. He comes over and says, 'it is $20 for the extra motor, and $11.99 for the extra fan blade!'

I said the whole fan assembly is only $27.99. I want the price quoted to be the price paid. Their price list should not be open to interpretation.

Why have prices for used parts drastically risen? Because of supply and demand. We, as Americans have been asleep at the wheel. We have let millions of illegals enter the country, and now we're paying the price. The rise in the price of used parts is just a reflection a national problem.

At my favorite yards, one is $12 per fan (so $24 for a dual fan) the other is $14 per fan.

You might have just gotten a couple of nimrods for some reason. I have had an employee or two try to swindle extra money over what their price lists show, but have been fairly copperative when the mistake is pointed out.

I did get ticked off when I scrounged up a pair of inner fenders several years ago and they wanted to charge for the hood hinges still attached. I didn't want or need the hinges, but since the bolts were so seized and rusted I wouldn't have been able to remove them at the yard. Oh well...

Call me crazy, but I just don't feel good about putting fans off a 2.5L engine onto my F350 truck with a 4.9 that is going to be towing/hauling.

I've read online where one guy had a 5.0 in his truck, and towed a 5k trailer with these fans, but he doesn't say if that was the 3.8 or 2.5 fans.

I have yet to see where a 3.8 came in the contour. The hi-po SVT still had the 2.5 I believe. Do those lil 4 hangers run warm? Believable especially if SVT tuned.

Keep in mind that modern engines are running hotter than our older engines, even with 195 t-stats plus the fans probably do have to run hard to keep that engine cool with such small radiators and hardly any grille to get air

From what I can research the Contour and Mystique only came with either the 2.0 4 banger or 2.5 V6

Those are good points. That's what I love about this forum. It allows me to see things from a different perspective. It is the v6 fans I was looking at. So, maybe they do flow a lot of air (3400 cfm reported). I guess I am hesitant because the 12" fans seem so dinky.

I found a nice Taurus fan, and it seems as though I may be able to modify it a bit to make it fit. Thanks.

I ended up taking a '99 Contour fan. It was the hp model with a 24 valve, Dynatec? v6. You're right Bullet390, the opening in the grill was about as large as an oblong basketball hoop. On top of that add air conditioning, and a trans cooler, and it would require moving a lot of air. I like the little compartment molded in the shroud for a resistor. I will install my adjustable thermo control there. It should look real clean there.

Anyway, here is a photo. It measures 24"X15 3/4". Internet lore says it moves 3400 cfm with its two 12" fans. I should soon know.

Bullet: I'm posting a photo of the space between rad. and pulley.

Although I thought I could use the Taurus fan with only slight mods, I realized the motor would be over real close to my p/s belts. If the Contour fans aren't adequate, I'll drop $30 more bucks on a T. fan, and give it a whirl. But if the Contour fans can truly cool a bbc like nothing, if that's not just web nonsense, then it should be able to cool my 4.9 when towing a load.

I should also add that if you're planning on pulling one of these fans, don't go thinking it is a piece of cake like a Taurus fan. Make sure you have a sawzall, or a hacksaw, a small sledge hammer and a good flat bar, along the normal rachets, dykes, razor knife, etc.

Interesting... hope it works out.

As for modern cars, it's nuts how hard those fans have to work, I forgot about the condensors and aux coolers.

Some cars barely have an opening bigger than a football.

I made a mistake on these Contour fans, guys. After buying mine and looking at the funny oem wiring, I can see that one of the fans has two hot leads. One of those goes through a resistor. I'm assuming the resistor allows less current, thus causing the fan to spin slowly. When the a/c is turned on, the other hot lead is activated, and boom, that fan gets full, direct power. So, I guess the one fan is a two speed.

After checking online and reading other write ups, it does confirm the two speed fan.

So both fans run the same or is one still low speed and the other hi?

Only one. Like all the others I've read, except those buying the DCC variable controller, I'll just wire it right to high.

Guys: Is there any reason why I couldn't use one adjustable thermo switch to trigger two relays? I pulled the oem relays out of two Tauruses, and want to wire one to each fan. Of course I would use prob. a 40 amp fuse on each power wire from battery.
