No if you did that the fan would never come on. It has to sense when the water coming out of the engine is hot enough to cut the fan on, then cool enough coming out to cut it back off.
true. i can figure out why the fan turns on, but never shuts off. it will run for 20 minutes after i shut the motor off and it finally cools it down enough, but that kills the battery. i cant seem to get the fan centered because the fan hits the water pump pulley. I would think with the huge cfm's it would cool it down enough. i wont actually know temps until i insatll a guage.
Yea knowing the actual temp of the water would be good. You possibly have the on/off temps set too low and that's why it's running so long after you kill the truck. Mine only runs for maybe 2-3 minutes after I kill the truck. I have mine set to come on at 205 off at 185.
Reviving an old thread because of the valuable knowledge previously mentioned herein. First, let me state that, though I know a lot about vehicles, I'm a suspension and drivetrain guy. I know nothing about wiring. I have read and read about wiring up fans and finally gave it a shot. Well, I did not succeed.
The taurus fan i got at a junkyard definitely works. It turns on when i connect it directly to the battery, however, when i hook it up "properly" and i flip the toggle switch, the fan does not turn on. I hear the solenoid "click," but the fan does not come on. What am i doing wrong? I am wiring up ONLY the low speed because i simply need to get the truck back on the road. The slow speed will work fine for now, and then when i get more time (i am crazy busy these days), i'll try the dual speed.
See the attached picture for the diagram i'm using (though i do have a fuse on the toggle switch wire (5amp). I went with the solenoid because it was cheap and easily accessible, though i know it cannot be used for the two speed.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. If anyone needs any more info to assist, just let me know. i really want to get this damn thing wired up and get "Bessie" (as my wife calls the truck) back on the road.
One from Napa. I have no idea anything other than that. Is there a particular one I should use? Lemme know.
Thanks.
There are different types of solenoids... I'm guessing ya got a starter solenoid that might not be rated for continously operation. Hence, you need to spec a continuous duty solenoid... it's basically a super-rated relay.
I know I'm digging up an old thread, but I had a couple of questions to throw out there. I'm using a dual contour/mystique fan and it work great, but I just have this bug about a 2 speed.
But to put in a taurus fan, I have to go with a 1 core radiator, and that seems counterproductive. Especially when hauling/towing.
Oh, btw, I saw on amazon a book about fan swaps. I thought that was funny that someone had rounded up all the part #s and controllers and all that, and came up with a book.
