I found this site 2-Speed FORD TAURUS fan wiring dia. and part list - HybridZ and think I can modify the top pic to work pretty easy. I would put a toggle and temp controled switch on the low speed side after the relay. Then just put a switch on the on the high speed side after the relay. That way I can cut the power going to the low speed side and run the high speed.

What do yall think of this Set-up?

Something like this

Would it be better to put the relay before the fan but after the switches or how I have it?

Also If anyone thinks this would be a good way to run the setup you have permission to use this Diagram/pic in any forum/website you want.

My first post wow!

This is the fan switch I used, controls high and low without a toggle.

VW GOLF EUROVAN PASSAT JETTA RADIATOR FAN SWITCH 94-03 - eBay (item 200464694776 end time Feb-17-11 12:32:39 PST)

It's a 22mm x 1.5 thread. I bought a tap and put it in the tstat housing. Works great!\

Edit: It cuts in low at 185, and High at 190. You can also buy them at the junk yard off of an audi a3 and get the harness at the same time. I wired it through the ground to control the fan relays.

You just want to make sure the low and high speed are never live simultaneously, or your fan will not last long.

So I've done lots of reading in various threads about these fan swaps and I'm curious why no one is taking the wiring, relays and controllers etc. from the donor vehicles. Are they controlled by the ECM or something? I imagine they would still have appropriate relays at least. Did I miss something?

No, you didn't miss anything. I was curious too. Then I found a couple of sites/write-ups that showed how to do it. Since the cost is far less with the pick your parts type system, I think I'll go that route. I've also noticed that a prob with the pick your part type install is that everyone has their own way of wanting it wired: led light, toggles on dash, low sp. on a sensor, high on a toggle, high hooked to air conditioning, and on and on. Anyway, here is the write up:

Ford Taurus Fan Install

I also like the idea of using this Volvo dual fan relay, and just routing it through an adjustable $25 sensor.

OK, so it looks like the jeep guys version has the fan running continuously on low when the ignition is on with a thermo switch to kick it into high. Pretty simple, but I would rather it only kick on when needed like the mazda setup. What i still don't get is why it's necessary to mix and match with volkswagen and volvo etc. Don't the Mark VIIIs and Tauruses have the needed thermo switches? What tells the relays to turn on and off in those cars?

The taurus runs low based on engine temp and high with the ac. So if you want to run the fan speed based on temp then you need a low and high temp switch. The taurus only has one temp switch.

Its easier to buy and wire aftermarket relays that come writh a socket and harness.

I now have a small efan system, but am going to upgrade to the Taurus fan. I am going to take the one system in the link, and run the low speed through an adjustable switch to come on at 190, and splice in my other thermo switch into the high circuit to come on at 200. I can just splice them into that schematic, taking Taurus relays from the j.yard, and a 50 amp T. fuse, with a light on the dash to show when it is not running. Presto.

I just need to understand why my MSD hesitates the way I now have it wired. I'd sure like someone to help on that one!

Would it be best to run the switches before or after the relay?

The switches TRIGGER the relay there is no before or after. You especially do not want the main power to the fan running thru the switch, that defeats the purpose of the relay.

I have read alot about this install and some people run fuses and other don't. I want to run fuses but don't know where to put them on the circuit at before the relay on the main power or after the relay?

OK, so I'm not the most knowledgeable guy when it comes to electrical, but does anyone else see a prob. with the above diagram? I do not understand or see any way for the thermo switch on the high sp circuit to get power!

Question: If I wanted to run the low speed too off a thermo switch, should I route the wire which connects the two relays through that switch?
