Tim, thanks for bringing this to the top!! i need to order my stancor GPR and probably get some new glowplugs. i will test my gp's later this week and see if i need them. my truck absolutely hates the winter. if it's warm you can hear the relay kick on and see the battery guage drop when it kicks on. when it gets colder..... haha.. that's a different story, you CAN'T hear the relay kick on and the battery guage does not drop either. wut y'all think?
Today was the first time I have plugged in my truck, and she fired up great after about 2 hrs, It actually sounded better than when it fires in the summer time. Thats is. lol
You've gone to the trouble of getting the valve covers off to replace the glow plugs. What else do you change while your there? My truck has nearly 200K (97 PSD CC SB 4X4)and I would guess that it is completely stock, should I look at anything else while I'm in here?
You could look at the rockers to see if they are bent. They usually don't bend unless there is high HP. That is pretty much all to do in ther. Oh yeah inspect closely the wiring harness. Make sure it is not burnt or rubbing anywhere.
Also while you are in there just replace the injectors with Stage I's or II's. LOL
Mike I just noticed something. You joined in Jan of 2007 and this is your first post?!
Where have you been. LOL come on out brother and post up with us. You will learn much and have lots of fun. We are glad to have you here and remember there are no stupid questions.
This place is not like some of those other sites where only the knowledgeable can ask questions and get answers. We all are treated the same. (not saying you are not knowledgeable, just needed to clear that up).
I skimmed through all posts and seen you guys did good job of covering issues but I still have question about the ground circuit wire on GPR. Does anyone know how to track down the source of this wire or circuit? I would like to fix it so I can remove my little push button switch I installed for now.
could one glow plug not working cause the truck to smoke until the engine warms up?
Yes. In the middel of the summer my trucked stated to smoke on startup. Took the test meter and found one that showed a open circuit. Turned out to be the harness under the VC.
Been getting a lot of white smoke at idle at startup and for the first 3 or 4 mins when shifting gears and giving it a little fuel. Truck starts on first crank and only smokes like this in the morning. Parked in the garage, temps 15 outside, probably around 25-30 inside. Checked all GPs and were 1.5-2 ohms. Could anything else such as injectors/o-rings or sensors cause this? It wouldn't surprise me except it starts up as easily as it would in the summer if I leave the key on for 30 seconds before starting. Haven't tried plugging it in, but will try tonight. Any ideas?
ok i checked all my wiring harness and fixed the burnt ones replaced all glow plugs got new injectors and it still smokes on start up and the glow plug relay is good anything else that can cause white smoke?
