Never been a fan of it. Would much rather have the base tailgate like in mine (see avatar)
Problem is, if the tailgate trim is taken off, it leaves the holes used to attach it.. So you can never quite get it to look like a truck without the trim (base tailgate) because of all the holes. Unless you replace the whole tailgate.
For what it's worth, the tailgate trim on 87-96 trucks can be used on 80-86 models, but you have to cut in a notch for the tailgate handle, as the newer models have the tailgate release up above the trim.
I stole one off a 90's Bronco in a junkyard and it fit right up. I did have to take an angle grinder and cut a square notch in the top to reach the tailgate handle. I covered the sharp edges with small vacuum hose-- just cut a slit in one side of the hose and it fits right over the sharp aluminum. Even looks factory-ish.
Some people really think they are sitting on some kind of gold mine with these old trucks...
I only paid $1,800 for mine and it's in a whole 'nother league condition-wise... How much do you guys think his old beater is worth?
I paid $1700 for mine, and I would pay about $700 for the truck in the ad.
I love it when people put words in the ad like "rare" and "hard to find", give me a break. Guess I can't blame him for trying though.....And I like how he mentions the whole "needs engine rebuild" like it is a rusted fender or something.
I thought id sneak a picture of my truck in here because the thread started with some explorer editions. Nothing special but i love it and to add to the above i probably paid to much for it. Trying to decide if i want to restore.
a couple weeks after i got it hauling scrap
Yellow car is the only thing stopping me from restoring the truck
Nice looking truck. I would restore it once your done with the torino. Great looking torino. '71 right? My dad had a couple fastbacks and still has a '71 Ranchero with the 351 C. Fast/Fun car.
