7th gen spotter's thread

Thought this might be another thread to put pictures in. I've been seeing nice trucks lately and some not so nice trucks. Thought I would post a few pics of nice 7th gens I've spotted, maybe their owners are lurking on here somewhere...

Never seen an 80-81 dually before:

with some damage:

This guy wants $1500 for this, a bit much imho:

Nice truck here, but could do without the hubcaps:

More to come when I find them...

Very good idea! I don't have any pics of the trucks in my area, but there are a few floating around. My favorite is a white 82-86 F-150 that resides in a pasture. Every so often it moves to a different spot in the pasture. I keep wanting to go ask about it, but I need it like I need another hole in my head.

Thought there would be some interest in this, maybe not oh well. Found another good one, this time an "Explorer" F-150 4X4:

This type of thread is fun. There is one simular to this in the 1973-1979 forum for trucks in movies.

There is a nice 1982-1986 Australian F-150 in LOST season one episode three.
But it didn't stay nice for long....

I thought I would sneak a picture of my baby in here! 1980 F250. Originally a 4x2 camper special. I swapped the body and motor over to a completely rebuilt 4x4 chassis complete with a 3" lift, rebuilt auto tranny with shift kit, rear locker, 3" exhaust, 40 series flow master and the original 351M with an Edlebrock performance package. (cam, cam chain, intake, carb and MSD ignition. I also put in new bucket seats, stereo and new radiator. This truck is the original forest green. It has never been repainted and is as good in person as it is in the picture. I have way more into it than what it is worth but I will retire with this thing. It is my fav vehicle by far!

This looks to be a 1984 Explorer. Each year of the Explorer specials, had a different pinstripe design.

6fifty_f1fifty 12-01-2010 02:51 PM

figured it was 82+

I thought there were multiple pinstripes each year too..?

My Explorer has the body molding and a badge instead of decal stripes and letterin. I like the fact ford did that with each year. To keep things interestin I guess.

This step side resides in my neighborhood. The owner has done A LOT of body work on it. I see him motoring around town quite often, but never had the chance to talk to him. Wish I had a better pic, but I wasn't about to get out of my Jeep and take pictures (you don't do that around here if you don't know the people).

I've posted this thing before, but here it is again. Surprisingly, it runs and drives.

There's also a F-150 one block over from my house. I have to stare at it every summer when grilling... it's been sitting in this guys yard for years. I approached him about purchasing it over the summer, but he's not ready to let go of it yet.

No, for the Explorer the stripes changed once a year only.

Explorers had a short production run each year. Usually only for a couple of months. This is why they do not feature in the main brochures. They had their own brochure when avaliable. Usually around Christmas, or at the end of a year model, just before the new year model was introduced.

They also feature limited edition options such as paint colors, seat trim and fabrics, pinstripes that wasn't avaliable on any other models. They also featured standard equipment that were options on other models.

Here are pictures of each Explorer year in turn with their own unique stripes.

1980 Explorer:

1985 Explorer: (With Explorer Stripe Delete for tu-tone paint option) I need a picture of a 1985 Explorer with stripes. They are wide stripes that go along the bottom bodyline around the fenders simular to how the lower protection moulding attaches.

1986 Explorer: (Last year of F-series Explorer models. These did not feature special stripes)

81 Explorer, I have two pics of what I think were 1985 Explorers, that may have the tape stripe you're talking about. Unfortunately, they were in the junkyard, so they don't look too good.

You can see the remnants of the Explorer emblem on the bed side of this truck.

As for the next truck, i'm not too sure if it was an Explorer or not due to lack of bed side emblems, but it had XLT Lariat emblems if that makes any difference. It had a similar tape stripe to the other truck.

BTW, those are two different trucks, the first was an F150, the second was an F250. They just happened to be in the same yard. I have a buddy that had a 1985 Explorer just like these two, so that makes a total of three trucks with similar paint schemes that I've seen around town.
