66 F100
I have been looking for a truck for several years. 3-10-26 was the day. We are working on the final details to purchase a 1966 F100 from down south. Yes hard to find decent ones in the rust belt! (near Lake Erie) I will have pictures soon. (promise, I like to post a lot of pictures) I do know how the forums work and everyone loves pictures. After several failed attempts to secure trucks from a distance, I finally felt "somewhat comfortable" to buy one from pictures and discussions with the owner. Is there risk, sure there is! As this develops I will probably ask for advice and guidance. The current plan is to finish the paper work and get The truck moving towards home in the next few weeks. Currently working with my Logistics guy to find a shipper. Anyone use American Wheels company? Or have a company they use that is good?
I am not able to go to the current truck location due to family health reasons. So we are going to try this. My first time buying a toy with out being able to crawl under and or drive!
Your welcome to come along on the journey!
As you can tell I tend to write a lot and will post a lot on a new toy in the toy box.
We were looking for a good driver type truck This may check that box. Time will tell. I liked the drive-ability upgrades on this truck. I like the original paint and the not so common color.
I have been a member here on FTE for several years, checking in at various times when I have found a truck and need advice. My name on here was chosen from a friend Effie and I like the 56 Ford style. Well we landed 10 years later but the Ford does not have a name yet so Effie may be in the running?

A few details about the truck:
- Color is code "B" Caribbean Turquoise
- It is a Custom Cab model. Maybe they all were??
- Wheel base is 115 (shortbed)
- Engine is a fresh 351W crate engine (1984 version)
- Original exhaust manifolds with new exhaust.
- Transmission is a automatic overdrive (1984 version)
- Rear end is the Ford 9 inch with 3:70 ratio
- Power steering has been added
- Power brakes have been added
- Front brakes are disc, rear are drum
- Interior has been freshened
- Exterior has original paint, which has some wear.
- Rust looks to be minimal
- Mileage listed at 37000
That is about all I have at this point. Looking forward to comments and advice about this new to me toy! Not our only toy. More on that later!

Regards,
Chris and Cheryl
skidoorulz, Looks like your avatar! We have a match!
Almost all of this truck and its specs are new to me. I really have no clue about the color, and how many were produced in the turquoise? Trying to get pictures available soon.

I will take you at your word! I would not argue with a single item because I am for sure not a expert on any of these but with you and other folks on here and in the wild I will learn and some of those details will become part of the trucks story. I really did not buy this to be original I was looking for a driver. Very interesting comment and I will share those not hide them. Like the 6 cyl indicators. That doesn't surprise me a bit! My dad had a 59 Ford 1/2 ton and we drove the snot out of that 6 cylinder truck! Thank you for taking the time. I don't think the owner misrepresented the truck. His words described all of the up grades. It has been modified in many ways. I think a lot of these 60 year old trucks have been. The pristine originals are few and far between.
I totally agree on the miles on this truck. My first thought was at least 137,000.
The warranty plate.... Yes I have to get the decoder ring out and check that. In this case it is what it is. My hope it has not been molested too much, is pretty rust free and will function better than when new. All that will be determined. Could I have made a big mistake? Maybe but it would not be my first in life! I do appreciate the support. I will need it!
I am hoping it meets my expectations as a driver that we can have some fun in and go get ice cream this summer. If it comes close to doing that it will satisfy me.
Along those lines I want to refer to one of my other trucks. Sorry for going off in the weeds. Our 1932 Ford:

odometer said 670427 ??
I have added an alternator and more modern lighting to be safe on the road at dusk.
I did my own wiring
The electrical system was changed to 12 volt.
Engine (which was at least engine # 2) was rebuilt to modern spec with replaceable bearings not babbit type. Far from stock engine but it runs down the road at 35 really good!.
I repaired one spot on the drivers running board and made it look patina
The truck set in a good garage for 70 yep 70 years before I bought it several years ago,
The body has not been touched , its still in its work clothes.
Interior has new seat springs and other updates. Original style.
So similar thoughts can be applied. We have had a lot of fun with it and have learned and met so many nice Ford folks.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Yes the owner said the dash pad was bad and he removed it and painted the steel dash to closely match the "B" code color and a off white lower color. Thanks for the Ford info/words.
Yes this is a resto mod type truck, with hopefully good bones! That's not unusual tto see mods like this, as some of us want a few safety items like improved steering and stopping action.
I hope this truck meets those expectations for us. At this point I am keeping my expectations rather low. having not crawled under it or touched it. I will probably find some things that are better and some worse!
We will contract with a shipper soon. Thanks for the possible carrier!@
See If I can find some additional pictures. These are pictures by/from the previous owner.

Back to the purist vs custom issue. I do like a vehicle to be near stock. It is much easier to research and work on it. I am going to be out of my comfort zone on the mods made to this truck.
Ok here we go taking this thread off in the weeds again. This is another of our toys. 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente. Cheryl bought me this car 3 years ago for Christmas:

I have rebuilt the front end steering components, new coil springs, shocks and converted to front disc brakes and dual master cylinder (LEED). New heavier front torsion bar. Also new rear leaf springs (EATON) and conventional shocks (QA1) to eliminate the air shocks. Also had new foam added to the front seats and made custom rails to move the seats back 3 inches. I was a little cramped prior to the seat work. This car had been painted at the factory and two additional times prior to us buying which was it 3 years ago. Its a driver and we do take it to shows and cruise in's. It performs ok with the original 289 and C4 automatic transmission. Runs down the road pretty good. Drives a lot like a 1965 Comet! It does have power steering. We drove "little red" 7000 miles last year. My wife has stage 6 dementia and the truck is for her. Man I hope she likes it!

So it looks like this 66 truck has been repainted at least once per your observations. Could the FORD letter bars be painted black and the gravel guard be painted silver and the hood badge be changed to a V8. I assume all these could be done. Does that make it more original. Well maybe more correct?? They are only original once! I would not be trying to bring this truck back to stock original condition. It is far beyond that with all the current mods. Has it been molested? Maybe to some degree? Again thanks for pointing these features out to me. If I would have been standing there I would not have know those details. Now I do, that's why I come to these forums that's where the knowledge is! I appreciate your critique. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your completely original truck? The original trucks are out there but don't show up often.

Buying your truck for Cheryl...is a wonderful gift of love and support. Respect... I pray that the shipping will go smoothly, I found my '66 in Oregon, and had it shipped to Virginia, and used Ginger with Transport Masters out of Florida. They are a shipping agent, and don't necessarily have their own trucks on the road, but then again, that is what I found in most cases. Ginger was great however, and helped smooth my concerns and while it took longer and cost a bit more (remote pick up and drop off points) Transport Masters was fair and split the difference cost wise (Ginger@transportmasters.net Phone number 954-256-9132). Transport Masters was my third attempt, due to the remoteness, most other agents couldn't find drivers willing to get off the beaten path, and then would simply not communicate, or double the price...or both. The price jump was small, and again, Transport maters split the cost, so I didn't feel scammed, and the truck arrived safe and secure...just a few days later than originally planned.
Keep the photo's coming, a restomod or original ride, is irrelevant, I think most of us on the forum, just like seeing these old trucks continue to roll, and enjoy the ride and community that goes along with it.
