We met up in Rancho Cuc right off of Haven, then took side streets on up from there. Right after we turned off of Cherry the Jeep just died. No spark from the coil. Had a DVOM so we started checking wires and everything was OK so got another coil and that was it. Parts pick the strangest times to die sometimes.
Anyhow, we rolled back in on the power line road for a while and everything was working fine. Time to check out 4wd. Worked well, but seemed like something was binding. Looked at it while he was driving slowly and it seemed to be dragging the back tires. Got underneath and turned the front drive shaft and had around 3 3/4 turns to 1 of the axle. Did the same thing in the rear...about 4 1/2 turns to 1
The guy he bought the axles off of down in Yuma apparently sold him a 4.56 rear and a 3.73 front. Whether it was a mistake or not remains to be seen.
Sorry, Steve, I just got a real chuckle out of your friend's gearing misfortune.
I do believe, however, had it been me rebuilding this CJ, I would have verified the differential ratios far earlier than at the initial test run.
Nothing you coulda' done about the coil failure, though. Unless, of course, it's supposed to have an external ballast and his doesn't. That'll shorten a coil's life a bunch!
Good morning Socal, hope you weekend went well, mine did not. It's official: I hate Texas. My Huskers lost (or more like gave away the game to) to Texas Saturday, my Chiefs lose to the Texans yesterday, on a questionable pass interference call, and just to top off the weekend, my stepsons pee-wee team, the Packers, lost to the Cowboys yesterday.
Question for you SoCal FTE Forumite's. I have 42 strips of reflective tape. These things are 2" x 5" solid gray reflective with a 0.5" green strip down the middle. The green strip is a glow strip, and can be recharged, and glows for 4-6 hours. I don't know how I ended up with these, but since I do, I figured might as well find a use for them.
