Any updates on this thread with engines that have failed, or they just keep going ticking, or ???
I'm wondering the same. I'm thinking about getting a SD with a 6.2, but after reading this thread I'm kinda hesitant to get one now. I currently have a '05 F150 with a 5.4 that has cam phaser knock and I don't want to get another noisy engine.
Going to see the dealer tis morning hope it goes well as i did not buy from this dealer. Tick is at start up and only lasts for about two or three seconds and does not do do it at every startup, but, i think i here it very faintly when warm. Anyone else with the 2012 having ticking issues? I Have another issue with the ac blower iot makes a rumbling noise at all speeds?
Wouldnt that just be no oil in the crank case from sitting? If you put in some Lucas Oil additive it will take that tick away, had the same problem in my Chrysler put that stuff in and never heard it a gain, even after 3 oil changes and only put it in once.
Dealer could not get truck to duplicate concern for the ticking noise
(lol) go figure . Said to service advisor so just drive it till it blows up
he did not like that coment but, he had no more real advise. He did replace the hvac blower motor and fan assembly and it is much quieter.
Mine ticks like that for a second or 2 at startup as well. I brought it up at the dealer after I bought it, they said it was normal and noted it on my ticket so I'm not concerned about it (and it's been fine for 14k miles so far).
The fuel injectors on these are loud as well. I held a mechanics stethoscope up to mine to confirm the constant ticking I had and it was coming from them.
Took mine to the dealer right off for the ticking. Maybe 2000 miles or so. Ford says nothing wrong with the truck, but to my surprise didn't even replace the canister purge valve per the TSB... So, I replaced the valve myself for the $43 or whatever it was. Nothing changed at all. I let it go because the truck ran so good. At maybe 8,000 miles or so, I switched over to a fully synthetic oil. The ticking noise was cut in half or better. Cold starts were a marked improvement. No questions.
The reason you hear the ticking on startup is it takes a second or two for the oil to make it up to the top end of the motor. My wifes 06 Escape has sounded like that from day one. Clears in like 2 seconds. Pushing 90K on that with no issues. Using a good synthetic (or additive as someone stated) helps keep the top end lubed properly, which makes for a better condition on a cold start. A good synthetic oil or additive has full molecules of oil which are designed to adhere to steel, as opposed to a partial sythetic or conventional oil that has molecules that have been broken down during refinement. Just sayin....
16K on mine, no problems at all. It's nice to just do gas and go. I miss the torque or the turbo diesel, but I don't miss the rest of the bulls**t that goes along with it.
HI All,
Firstly, want to say a big thanks to everyone for posting their personal tales of woe with the growing pains of the 6.2L.
My Wife and I just bought a new 5th wheel trailer this winter, and while it's parked at the campsite now, I know my Ram 1500 isn't going to be towing this unit ANYWHERE! (It's a 33ft 5th, 11,200 dry, and about 13K and change loaded).
Have been looking into the F350 for a while now - my bro-in-law has an 06 with the V10 and loves it - their trailer is 27ft and about 12K loaded.
Probably be picking up a truck this fall - hopefully get a 2012 at the end of the model year for a deal. Looking at XLT or maybe Lariat in a 4x4 CC SB - 6.2L and 4.30.
So, outside of the 'tick' and possible tranny shift issues, has anyone had any other issues - computer display, heat/ac, steering wheel mtd. controls, anything? I mean things that seem to be happeneing to more than one person...every truck has some 'ghosts' that need a kick int he pants to sort out...
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
The shocks in the FX4 package and the factory steering stabilizer are a joke, other than that, the 6.2 forum is pretty dead, and I think it's for a good reason.
If you venture over to the 6.7 forum, you'll find more feedback on the '11+ trucks in general. Most of the threads aren't even related to the 6.7, just the truck in general.

Welcome to FTE.
A joke? In what respect? Convince me to buy new shocks and stabilizer!!! Cmon!!!
I do like no off road stuff, so my truck is pretty comfy for being a 1 ton.... But maybe it could be better!!

Funny you should mention interior stuff. I had a loaded up 2008 350 CC that I loved interior wise. When I got my 2011, it made my 2008 look like an 88. Interior on the new ones is very nice. I have a 2011 350 CC Lariat, Loaded to to gills. Controls are great, dash display and control is great. Navigation system is more than you'd ever want. I have heated/cooled seats which is nice with the leather. Climate control works very well.
Rear camera is wonderful. Back right up to trailer every time.
All in all, the interior/comfort of a 1 ton is finally where it needed to be. We run up North during the winter snowmobiling. Were in the truck anywhere from 5-10 hours at a time. It's a nice ride. Pops got an 05 with a 6.0 Liter that we just leave home...

My truck flopped around like an old cadillac anytime I hit a bump in the road. It seemed to continue bouncing afterwards, which drove me nuts. The Rancho 9000's corrected that, the adjustability allows you to tune it how you want. I have my fronts set to 6, rears at 3 (maybe 4, can't remember). Keeps the body roll in check in around corners/bumps as well.
The steering stabilizer is where I noticed the bigger improvement. The steering wheel damn near came out of my hands a few times from going over bad sections of road. I posted a video (over in the 6.7 forum) I took before I replaced my steering stabilizer that reflected what I was feeling in the wheel, it was horrible.
The combination of replacing the shocks/stabilizer improved the handling tremendously. It's a fairly inexpensive (considering the benefits), easy do-it-yourself job too, can be done in an hour or 2 depending on how long you let the PB Blaster do its work.
