The first time there was no check engine light, but it definitely sounded like a flat lifter.
The 2d time I noticed a miss, then left the door open the next time I started it and heard a gentle clicking. I was thinking that I should take it in to the dealer and when I started home that day the check engine light came on. While being repaired they applied TSB 10 25 07.
Noticed a miss? Can you define that alittle better? Noticed a miss when, at idle?
That gentle clicking you speak of, thats EXACTLY what mine is doing. If you rev it
up at idle, at 1500 rpms, you can hear it in the truck, nevermind when the door is open. I'm almost sure it is valve train related, especially after reading all of this.
I hope enough people read this to answer my next question. Just coming from a 6.4 Liter, this happened to me so many times, and it killed me. After doing all of this research, and finding out that this may be a problem, and seeing a TSB posted, what do I do if/when the dealer says "Oh, that's normal"???????
Do you mention web research? Do you mention the TSB? Do you call Ford?
How could theyeven say that? These trucks are so new, chances are they've only seen one or two come in, if at all. Ofcourse they will lie anyways. No doubt, mine will be "the first one"........................
Mine will be going on Monday. I will post my findings.

TSB 10 25 07? What is that suppose to fix?? Anyone have a link to the actual TSB??

I haven't actively worked on vehicles since they started putting on catalytic converters, I try to not diagnose the problem, just identify the symptom. That said. The engine had a definite miss at idle. Something not unlike a 283 cid with a 3/4 cam. Lopped a little. The miss would come and go. But, it made me listen for excessive valve lash. Slight clicking that frequency followed rpm, indicating engine. I have read of an issue with noise from the fuel injectors in some of these engines and that also sounds like a reasonable explanation.
First time I took the truck in I would have definitely said a flat hydraulic lifter if it was a 289 or 283 cid engine. But I haven't seen the heads or engine taken down on this engine and don't know if it has lifters. The noise was so bad that when we got home to unhook the trailer my wife got out first and she said, "Hey, you need to check your truck." And, this from a lady that thinks a dipstick is someone that consider buying another after waiting 46 days to have his new truck fixed.
If I was able to attach documents...I would. I wish I could post up everything I have access to. If there is anything you need in the way of tech info, I can more than likely get it one way or another, just shoot me a PM with your email address and I can send you pdfs.
