I have an engine hoist, and I'm told that my engine stand (currently with a friend of Aaron's) is free and available.

Also, once the snow passes, you are more than welcome to my garage. I only park the car in there during the snow months. I'm not sure what your schedule is looking like.

Well Greg, I certainly appreciate the offers. I don't currently know my schedule either really. I am hoping within the next couple of months. Sooner rather than later. All I really have left to get is the dizzy, and then I should be pretty well there. Then I can take the engine out and start cleaning it up. I am sure I will come across some other things along the way that need work, but hopefully not too much. Aaron is pretty excited about the build, so I am sure that he will want to be around for the majority of the process, and I certainly won't mind.

Too bad you don't have another "donor" engine that you can build and then you'd just have to take your truck of the road for the swap.

a donor engine was always a really nice luxury i have never had myself. i am really close with my race quad, by next season i may have enough parts to build one. it really does make things easier and stress free.

greg-o's stand is sitting in my barn empty and ready to work.

I am coming to the party late, but I also have a engine stand doing nothing.

At this point, I would say that any donor engine I could find would require more work than the engine I currently have. I just recently passed 100k on the oldometer(typo intended). Luckily I don't drive my truck much. I drive the work van around most of the time. If there is ever anything I really need a vehicle for, I can borrow something from the parent's. They now have an extra vehicle sitting around because my brother is too dern lazy to get his license.

By the way Greg, when might your garage be free to do the new steering parts? Do you have a grease gun? I bought some grease, and then realized the parts have zerk fittings for a grease gun...silly me.

For both previous messages....I should find out about the barn in Higganum this weekend, then I won't have to inconvenience anybody with this stuff.

I do have a grease gun, but it takes the small cartridges, rather than the larger standard size ones. As long as you don't have any super special grease requirements my stuff should be fine. I will check with the boss about garage availability. I'm sure this weekend would get shot down but the weekend after is probably open. I then have the extended family Christmas on 1/8 I think. Also, humor me and measure the distance from the ground to the highest immobile point on your truck. I don't see it being any higher than my '79 was. I will update once the boss gets home.

My buddy is in town the weekend of the first...maybe he would be interested in helping/learning some things. I will have to let you know on that one. No hurry needed on this stuff. I don't figure my parts require any special grease. I will let you know the measurement when I get a chance...which is right........(roughly 5 minutes later)now! I would say, conservatively, it is about 76" to the highest cab light. I could always slap on the old 235's and drop a few inches. But if my truck is higher than your '79 was, I am a happy camper

My door measures in right around 76.25 so we can either deflate tires (that's what I did for my truck with 33x12.5 tires, or as you suggested, just swap for smaller tires. New Years weekend is currently looking the best for the next couple of weeks. I have off Friday - Sunday. No plans as of yet, but if I had to guess I would say I will be spending Friday evening at the parents. That leaves all Friday morning plus Saturday and Sunday at this point.

It was tough to get a good measurement, so 76 may be a little generous on the top end. I will have to measure a couple of times to get a good idea. But I would say that the truck will fit without much of an issue. It may be best to keep the bigger tires on for the alignment anyhow. I know my buddy is only going to be in town Saturday sometime through Sunday I think. So Sunday morning may be good, if he wants involved that is. If not, anytime will be good for me.

Saturday and Sunday both appear open for me at this point. Just let me know what works for you as we get closer.

If any of this interests you let me know, I'll shoot you some prices.
dvarrison, i was wondering if you still had those parts for sale? I'm currently working on a 300 I6 and could use some new parts or used as well.
