I don't know what it was I seen Tom. It didn't have any insignia's. But man.. that thing was so beautiful. IIRC it was black and red with just the right amount of chrome. The six looked like a flathead six to me but I'm not sure. I just remember it was massive. It looked wider than a Cummins to me.
What kind of six's were those? I'd like to know the power they made.

I know back in the 40's they used diesel I-4's that made 130 horse and 240 ft lbs. Something akin to that anyway. The trick was they had two speed rearends.

One of these days Tom I'm going to have one of those bad boys sitting in my front yard. I want a big gas I6 in it too just for the cool factor.

I completely understand your viewpoint, its no different than those who ride motorcycles, you have to accept the risk. The decapitation is not uncommon, it happed to a kid I went to highschool with... the end of the trail was cabled off and you cant see a thin cable stretched across the trail if it has no markings on it, ecspecially if you are doing 60-80 mph like he was... It seemed as though we would lose around a dozen people every winter to sled accidents.. often times it was from falling through the ice... that would be such a bad way to die.....

well look at that!!
all these years, i thought it was an"R" series, and i went looking to google looking for a picture only to find out the first"R"series was in 53, and i actually had a 49 L-190 iternational.
anywho, here is a pic of what it looked like. mine was fire engine red with white lettering on the doors.

funny you mention this. my parents are bikers. my dad has been since he was a teenager. mom started riding when she got with him and she ended up with a few bikes of her own. a 60 sumthing triumph chopper and a 70sumthing 750 bonneville. had them and rode them for years. she picked up a few road rashed victims and got weird for a bit, but then she picked up one that literally got his head grated on the road and died. the bikes sat for a while, and then she ended up selling them off. my dad just picked up an 82 hd lowrider for her. if she's still too gun shy, I have a new free harley

I too am a motorcyclist, I have never had a Harley, I have had sportbikes, the last being a GSXR750. I sold my bike last year mainly because I got tired of two things, the bad reputation that 18 year old kids give sportbike riders, and being scared to death that every old lady in her buick was gonna pull out and kill me.. I have never been the type to run down the highway on one wheel at a buck but I did enjoy the handling of a sportbike. But, everyone thinks that if you are on a "crotch rocket" then you watched biker boyz one too many times..... Anyway, if I get another one I think it may be a supermotard, like a DRZ 400SM or maybe a European Supermoto.... Like I said I have never ridden a Harley but they dont look like they turn.....

my dad has some slick bikes. the hotrod:a 76 113c.i. shovelhead chopper that he has had since new and he's redone it probably 20 times since then. they call it the chameleon. a 2008 road king since now he's an old man and needs a big old garbage barge bagger with a stereo(lame) oh and the turbocharged 1990 fatboy I wanna say it was dynoed at 175ish hp, but that was like 5-7 years ago when he got that done. it does pretty wicked wheelies with a 350lbs fat guy on it

pretty much what the 08 is. funny thing is he always said he'd never get one because they were "garbage barges with radios" now he brags about the sound quality of it's stereo

The 76 is a hardtail chopper with a springer front end, its a barhopping bike at best but looks cool. the new one is a comfy cruiser. the fatboy is crazy fast and can handle its own with a good experienced rider like my dad, but it is no where near a corner carver. it's just a comfortable bike to go on moderately long rides and has the power to blast off for some good old fun. he mainly just goes for cruises out in the country. he works 72hours a week+ in late spring/summer so he doesn't have much time to ride with the way the weather is the rest of the year.
EDIT: the lowrider he just picked up would be the best option as a bike for swoopy curvy stuff, but there isn't a whole lot of that around here.

Wanna put it up against my little Sporty?

ok ok, it's not a sporty, but it is pretty "Sporty" and it'll hang with a Hyabusa on the straight ways and devastate them in the corners

well karl if you ever happen to be cruising around in central illinois and see a man that looks like santa with tattoos everywhere riding a silver cruiser with a distinctive whistle sound go ahead and try him. he'll occasionally race young punks out in the country, it makes him feel young again
i know for sure he has smoked a few of those hyabusa's that were mildly tweeked. found that out from a few friends who came back crying talking about an old biker schooling there **** in racing. the second the said turbo i smiled and laughed cause my dad is the only turbo harley we've seen anywhere near our area. went home and made dad laugh even more when i told him they were buddies of mine.

Yeah, but considering mine is still only naturally asperated and 74" (making it 1200cc's) it does all right. I originally built it to road race on track days, but after all the chrome and 1 off body work I built I couldn't get comfortable putting it on the track anymore for fear of doing something dumb and destroying it.
