Hey there, I'm a new auto dealer and I have a 2006 F-250 with some rust on the frame. I was wondering if you guys had any tips on how to clean the rust off or make the frame look better ?
ive been under my truck a couple nights a week with a chisel, few wire brushes and other assorted stuff. i think im mainly scraping off old undercoating but there is some surface rust that im getting off too. then i proceed with rustoleum black paint that will say stops rust on the can. the rustoleum undercoating paint is terrible, dont waste your money. never sticks to anything
you have to get the rust and most important the buried underling moisture off first. If you actually follow the directions of products such as POR15 you will see you need to remove all but the very thin surface rust. That then can be encapsulated and sealed off from any moisture by the POR coat. There is no quick fix to rust.
I use a chisel like scraper to scrape off any loose rust flakes then undercoat the entire vehicle with diesel waste oil. It kills the rust, lubes joints and bushings, never rusts again. Plus the diesel waste oil is black and stays black so it looks just like the factory coating.
I just bought an 06 F-250 V-10. Ive been hearing this "rattling/buzzing" noise when i step on the gas.. usually at a certain rpm. Someone told me it could be a hole in the muffler, or the fire shield. I went underneath today and boy.. rust. The muffler is damn near fallin apart. When I bought it, i knew the underside wasnt mint but god damn! I patched the hole in the muffler for a quick fix, and i ripped the heat shield out of it. any ideas?

my 03 v-8 gas has i think the same rattle/buzz that youre hearing. 99% of the time its right before the gear shifts. it doesnt shake the truck at all just a really loud buzz, i see the heat shield is hanging off down there though.

You are a dealer? Are you just cleaning up this truck to sell it?
If so just be honest, leave the rust there, and bring it to the attention of the perspective buyer. That way the buyer can decide if he wants to buy a truck with rust damage, and he can see the extent of it.
As a buyer in the market currently. I can tell that you any truck I look at w/ fresh black paint on the under carriage gets a thank you for your time from me. That may just be me though. I want to know what is actually going on down there.

My truck is about to be sandblasted to remove loose rust, then coated with a marine zinc coating that will virtually halt further rusting for a few years.
But then... my truck is not for sale... for quite a while.
