frame repair

I have a rusted out section where the radiator support mounts to the frame. What gauge metal is the frame of a F100? It is a 66, not sure if it varied from the earlier trucks.

A piece of 1/4"-3/8" X 2" flat bar will work just fine.

I just patched mine from a 1974. I cut out the section from the donor, cut out the bad, and welded in teh patch, then I ground, and ground, and ground Can't see any patch lines. If it's not in my gallery I'll post tonight.

When you start cutting and grinding be careful of the ****VIN**** its on
the pass side front frame rail, I don't think you should'nt be back quite that far back cutting and grinding but I know a leaking battery does a job on the
frame there too!

I was very careful around the numbers, there was also a stamping on the drivers side.

I'm thinking that the number that you are seeing on the drivers side would be
on the side of front rail right below where you would be cutting, and it is a
part number stamped with real big letters, but I would'nt want to lose those
numbers either!

I didn't think about the vin, but to be honest the frame was pretty much gone for about a 2" wide section. If it was there it was rusted away.

I found some scrap metal of about the same thickness, used a cut off wheel to remove the rest of the thin area and square it up, and welded in my patch. I'm pretty happy with the results. I will need to go back and drill a hole for the radiator support mounts & bushing.
