I would do a shackle flip to get what you want. You could even drop the shackle mounts a ways if you want to I know several other members on here have gone that direction.

Do you think there is any way I can get pictures of the way others have lowered the mounts?

I think if you look at ivanribic or proeliator galleries they have pictures of what they did there. I remember pro doing it first and then a couple other guys copying it with good results but the only other one i remember for sure is ivan.

edit: if its not in their galleries do a thread search. I think i remember a thread about this topic with pics many years ago. Good luck!

not readin all 5 pages BUT if it hasnt been brought up yet, build your own shackle thats shaped as a 7. so the bottom bolts though the factory bottom, the tip bolts to the leaf and with the bend in it, it will pivot just fine. depending on the eye to eye distance you might have to move your hanger back a little.

as far as the steering goes, crossover steer goes where your highsteer would, its just the drag link. highsteer is when your drag link and tie rods go over the axle. you can go extreme drop pitman arm for up to 10" lift. if you go crossover or highsteer then you gotta get a new knuckle with it. this is me, before the extreme drop pitman arm. without it i only could steer 1/2 turn to the right, and major turning to the left lol
